Haven't seen any other teams play but I do know trinity is VERY talented

Trinity is the best team in the State and it's a distinction they've earned. Talented, well coached, and disciplined.

 

Part of what makes them so good against top flight teams is something that I see possibly allowing an underdog to sneak up on them as well, so I'll say maybe so because of their style of play if nothing else.

 

Trinity doesn't really turn up the juice in terms of tempo, so maybe games that might otherwise be blowouts don't turn into such quite as quick and someone is able to hang around. It's been discussed quite a bit here, but their style of play the past few seasons has most likely been a direct result of anticipating a matchup with Ballard for the 7th Region crown.

 

If we're talking just in terms of the State, I would give Ballard a good enough chance of beating them. Not saying that the experts would favor them, just that I can see how it could possibly happen. I could see possibly a Hopkinsville or someone like that giving them trouble as well.

 

Any game against a good team, especially one with a solid big, where Spalding was in foul trouble for a significant portion of the game could be a trouble too.

NCC

KY has a long history of talented teams(some nationally ranked) that didn't make it out of their region. Off the top of my head University Heights with Lamont Barnes,Isiah Victor,& Harold Swanagan. Ballard with Brandon Bender & the Chiles kid. I believe Paducah Tilghman may have been nationally ranked in the 90's and not made it to the Sweet 16. I'm sure there are others. Trinity will have to fight like heck to make it out of the 7th Region. Don't forget Eastern and Ballard have multiple D1 level talents on their teams. Then once a team gets to the Sweet 16 you have a whole different fight on your hands. KY is one state where 90% of the time you just never know who's going to win it all.

All bets are off in March. I dont care who you are, things almost always get interesting when you hit the regional tournament.

While Trinity might be everyone's choice, remember Newport Central Catholic beat Trinity at the end of last year, at Trinity, on Senior night, ending long home court winning streak. Reason that is important..... many feel this years NCC team is better than last year. NCC has just as much back as Trinity. Time will tell.

I don't think there is any team that could beat Trinity in a 7-game series. Fortunately for other teams, we don't play 7-game series in Kentucky. I think there are a number of teams that could potentially beat Trinity on a given night, particularly any team that has the potential to get hot from the outside. Throw in some potential foul trouble and injuries, and you never know.

Exactly. It's hard enough getting out of Louisville, much less worrying if anyone from another region can compete.

I agree. Anyone can be beat. I don't care who you are.

Bardstown played them essentially even in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. They were -10 in the 1st and 4th, however.

Ballard was loaded last year with two Mr.Basketball candidates and couldnt get out of the region. Trinity style of play can also hurt them by allowing good teams to stay close. Close games can go either way in tournament time. They will be a tough out. However, after Ballard last year no team is guaranteed.

Spalding had a good showing in the city of palms even with the foul trouble..with his leadership Trinity will win there second state title. ...imo. ...
