December 12, 201411 yr Poythress seems to me to be the "odd guy out" in all this. With so many bigs playing so well Poythress is kind of looking like the guy that is getting "pushed" to the three. The sad thing is I think if given playing time at the 4 he would play well, he just is not as good as the others playing their now. And I think Lyles will start stealing his time at the three. Well I guess this is more true now than yesterday at noon when we posted it. Real shame. Hate to hear this for Poythress.
December 12, 201411 yr The physical part will suck. Hope he overcomes the mental hurdle. Get well soon AP.
December 12, 201411 yr Can AP get a medical redshirt for this year? I'd say that he's played in too many of the scheduled regular season games. I don't think he'd come back for a 5th year anyway. I hate this for him.
December 12, 201411 yr Really hate this for AP. Obviously don't know him personally but he seems like a great guy from what I can tell. Kid can get it done in the classroom. He's suppose to graduate in May, isn't he?

December 12, 201411 yr Feel terrible for the kid. Not so much for UK. You have a full bench of all-Americans to take his place. Everything will be fine.
December 12, 201411 yr Wow... really hate hearing this about him, or any athlete. Sure hope that he can fully recover and still have a promising basketball career.

I hate this for him. You know, he may be able too because he missed those other two games earlier this year with an illness. What's the cutoff?
December 12, 201411 yr Coach Cal on his Blog this morning: Alex tore his ACL during yesterday’s practice. It was a breakaway layup and no one bumped him. He stepped with his left foot and just went down. When I saw Alex last night, I said to him exactly what I said to Nerlens: “You’re fine. If this is something crazy, you have insurance and you’re a millionaire. You have even more time than Nerlens had to prepare yourself for the draft if that’s what you choose to do. You can also come back. You’re going to have your degree in May and you can start on a master’s degree for your last year.” Alex is nearly a straight-A student and one of the greatest kids that I’ve ever coached. Our team was devastated for Alex when I told them. There were tears throughout the room because this hurt them to the core. How they will respond I really don’t know, but I will do my best to be there for each of these kids. I told them, this is a big blow to our team. No one will be able to replace Alex and what he did for this team. I go back to last year’s NCAA Tournament. Without Alex, we don’t win those games. No one will be able to replace him, but now everybody has to do a little bit more as we try to circle the wagons.
December 12, 201411 yr Incredible. AP finally starts to get his juices going and this happens. I wish the best for him. I think the team will be fine, but I'm sure a lot of us can imagine what it's like to watch the rest of the season from the sideline, wishing you were in there with your buds. I hate this... Awesome response by Cal though. I love that man as well. Man, this sucks...
December 12, 201411 yr You know, he may be able too because he missed those other two games earlier this year with an illness. What's the cutoff? I believe it has to be less than 30% of regular season games. Alex has only played in 8/31 games. So, he should be able to get a medical redshirt for this season.
