Which team was better, Williamsburg or Beechwood? Why?

Tough question, not a clear cut answer. I think Bw was but WB played a better game against us. To me it was hard for Mf to take WB with the same intensity they did BW. After last years beat down and the schedule WB played this year I honestly expected a fairly easy win. To further compound this, everyone from Pikeville to Fulton had already crowned us champs. I liken it to the Mf Russellville game 1. Now I know I will catch 9 kinds of crap for those statements but that is from the heart. Let me replay WB and I don't think the game is anywhere near as close just as the rematch with Russellville was not. Further, there is no way WB could make some of those freak plays again like they did in that game. They made some plays, like 2 of those catches that were circus stuff.

That is well said and I would have to agree with you on it all. Williamsburg played their best game when they needed to. To win a state championship, I guess you got to have a little luck lol. But really, I don't think WB could play that well again even if they had to. I'm still going with Beechwood in this question.

As if we don't have enough people hating us across the state, and you ask this loaded question! No matter how we answer, somebody is going to feel slighted. Would love to see these two teams play though, that would be a great football game.

Williamsburg's receivers made spectacular plays this entire season, just another day at the office for them. I think that Williamsburg made a mistake in not going to their passing game earlier in the contest, especially when down inside the red zone, because from what I have seen, if you throw it up where they can get their hands on it, their receivers almost always make the catch. They needed to get the ball into Shelton and Lowries's hands more often than they did.

talking about this years teams of course....Beechwood was the better team IMO.

 

I said that within an hour of the trophy headed back to Mayfield. Mayfield won both games by capitalizing on the mistakes of both teams. Beechwood scared me right till the whistle. I never got in a panic with WBurg like I did BW if you can believe that given the scores of both games.

 

That is no slight to WBurg but I think if we play Wburg 10 times and Mayfield wins 8...if we play BW 10 times the may best us on half.

 

The reason I say that is this. Beechwood knows what its like and what it takes to consistently win games at that level and WBurg doesn't and that attitude will carry you further.

I think Williamsburg overall.. I think there QB, Griffin, was head and shoulders better than Fieger.. Much stronger arm, could throw from the pocket or on the run, was incredibly accurate and made big plays with his legs.. Not a slight on the Tigers QB, just felt Griffin was on another level.. WRs also an edge to Williamsburg.. Those guys flat go after the ball and can catch them at there peak or in traffic.. They didn't mind laying there bodies out there, also.. RBs, slight edge to Beechwood.. Don't think Williamsburg had as good a RB as the 2 that Beechwood had, but, with the fact that Griffin could run it and WBurg could pass it better, it's pretty much a wash.. I think Beechwoods OL was a little better than Williamsburgs, but, it isn't by much. Both teams had there moments on the ground, but, the Tigers a little more so.

 

Defensively, W'Burgs secondary contained Mayfields passing game better, but, Mayfield was able to run the ball a little better against them then they did against Beechwood.. The DL would go to Beechwood, very strong against the run, the LBs I'd go with W'Burg.. They were very solid left to right, made a ton of tackles and looked a little better athletically. I don't think either one had great kicking games, maybe a slight edge to W'Burg, he did kick a couple of FGs and had a pretty good leg..

 

I didn't see Beechwood live, just highlights, so, a lot of what I'm saying strickly comes from how Mayfield fared against them, not necc the eyeball test, so, you can take it with a grain of salt. I didn't really feel that Mayfield played there A game against either team and W'Burg probably played closer to it's potential against Mayfield than Beechwood did, but, on the other hand, Beechwood lost by 11 on it's home field and Williamsburg lost by 1 on a neutral field. So, with all things considered, I'd give Williamsburg a slight edge if both teams brought there A games..

Cry me a river rookie. You get upset when people say Williamsburg outplayed Mayfield even thought they led virtually every category other then the final score then you cry about people not liking Mayfield.

 

You said it didn't matter because Mayfield got the trophy, so it shouldn't matter here, who is better Beechwood or Williamsburg?
