It's the "home cooking" officials that bother me.

No longer being able to say "3 Point Goal" or "Foul on _______ thats his first, team______" is pretty weak. Some of the stuff i can understand but this is getting a little ticky tacky IMO. A big part of your home court advantage is a good PA announcer. While i agree, they shouldnt be doing play by play or talking while the away team is at the free throw line, they should be able to show emotion. Im going to hope this is something that isnt enforced.

In two games, from what I've seen, it has been business as usual. I'm not upset with that.

I've been to a great many games over the years. Some of the things I've witnessed and heard:

 

 

• PA announcers doing actual play by play
  
• Only announcing baskets for the home team
  
• Saying that baskets were made by jersey numbers instead of names
  
• Announcing baskets, not fouls
  
• Announcing fouls, not baskets
  
• Announce the starting lineup then nothing else
  
• Seen a PA guy get ejected by the official for complaining about a call.

During my time in high school in the early to mid 80s, we had a coach that demanded that baskets not be announced. So with that, during boys games, we only did starting lineups. With girls games, we did lineups, baskets, fouls and the rest. A side note, he didn't last the whole season. There were more issues with him than his PA demands.

 

Personally, I prefer the PA person to do starting lineups, made baskets, substitutions, fouls and who is at the line. I don't really like calling the travel or the held ball. I also believe that it's ok for the PA person to be more enthusiastic toward the home team, but it is also important to make sure the visitor names are clearly heard. It is also important to pronounce the names correctly. No kid should hear their name mispronounced all night. It just looks bad on the PA person.

I can tell you what. That Casey Co announcer didn't get the memo . He does a good job of announcing though. Not too biased

Maybe this is the main issue.

 

 

 

Announcer giving details while the visitor's are shooting free throws. I can't imagine it happens often and can't remember the last time I saw it.

 

The fact that you can't say if it's a 2 or 3 is kind of absurd.

 

I think you may have misinterpreted what was stated in post #16.

 

It states Announcer should not report items such as "Number of baskets (two or three) by a specific player", not "type of basket". It somewhat reinforces the announcer cannot report "Number of points scored by a player" (a no-no).

 

That's the way I interpret it, tho I could be wrong.

I go to watch a high school basketball game, I don't pay attention to the PA delivery style.

 

Agreed,,,who cares,. I have been to 4 games this week, all at different locations and there has been no uniformity. What is next, no banners on the walls, marking or logos on the playing floors? Why not do away with the student sections also,,this could go on and on.......

Glad that you brought it up. As I did the PA announcing at Cov Holy Cross a few years back! So yeah, I proved it before he even came along, many others in NKY have proved it as well.

 

The hate? As you say it, others see it as the truth. Just listen to some of the stuff he does. Plus, his comments on social media are a joke, if he is an adult he should act like one!

Finally got to a game on Friday. No appreciable difference other than not announcing how many threes an individual had made. Everything else seemed the same.
