Game one: No

Game two: Possibly. As I posted in the game Dixie/NCC game thread a kid fouled out and you didn't hear the 5 buzzes nor was there an announcement by the PA guy that he fouled out. It just looked like he was subbed for. I also noticed that nothing was said on a few 3s made.

 

A ref buddy of mine read the other thread about this subject and said way too much is being made of this .

If he's violating the PA rules, he should be held accountable and told to comply. If he can't, he needs to pass the mic to someone who can.

The Scott Co announcer was noticeably different. Did not give nearly as much information as normal and very little voice fluxuation. He has always been pretty animated.

First off, it's not a rule change...it's a point of emphasis. Secondly, it was put in place to make sure erroneous information isn't made public. If the PA guy keeps the book while they announce (as the one I'm talking about does) then what they broadcast is official. Also, while they show a little more emotion for home baskets, it's not an NBA style where it would affect the game.

It's high school basketball! If visiting teams can't handle the heat, they need to get out of the kitchen! I think it makes everyone from fans to players feel more involved when their is enthusiasm from the PA guy. Sports are feeling more and more like a dictatorship rule everyday now in youth sports.

Dixie did not have the PA announcer from years past doing the 1st game at home. I hope that its not a permanent thing, as he was/is really good.

 

The replacement was very monotone and, compared to the other guy, boring.

So not really being familiar with anything about the basketball PA delivery...am I to assume there have been some rule changes/new rules handed out about it?

From what I was told you can no longer announce fouls (foul on #, name of athlete, it is his 2nd fouls and teams # of fouls for the half). I think that information can be said at the half. There are more but can't remember well enough to put them here.

We had the exact same thing happen at Bracken. I hope the new guy does well but nothing like the other guy. I know i wouldnt want to do that job. It be fun but i dont think its for me with all the new emphisis on things.

I think that with the new POE, it would be a much easier job. Especially if someone else is keeping the book.

I don't think the PA can say things like, "3-Point Goal by Jordan!" with extra enthusiasm for the home team anymore.
