Holmes played ZERO defense the whole game (which sometimes happens early in the year) But what suprised me most was, Holmes couldn't hit shots at all. I have no idea what the percentage was.

I called this one. Was talking to a buddy the other day and I said people better not sleep on HC even tho Jeremiah Tisdale is out for the year. Isiah had a good summer and can play and they have some good pieces. Plus I'm sure they are out to prove something. Holmes seems to be overrated to me.

So who shut him down ?

 

Why did Beetle take only 6 shots? Did he sit out with foul trouble?

 

Played off the ball most of the night. When the ball was in his hands he was aggressive and scored. He could have dominated but others were taking the shots when he gave them the ball.

Well that makes no sense. Top 5 player in the state can't get his shots. That will have to change, I would think.

Holmes led 41-31 early in third quarter. Henry Clay called timeout, got chewed out real good by the coach, then hit consecutive treys, outscoring Holmes 36-14 from that point until 4 minutes left in the game. HC shot layups in its 36-14 run in second half. Holmes shot and missed a lot of contested 8-footers. Bolden was double-teamed for much of the game as soon as he crossed halfcourt. HC defensed him about as well as I've seen. Young Tisdale (00) is a heck of a player.

A pleasant surprise win for the Blue Devils. I thought this game would be a good one to help them grow and they go and win it! :jump:

 

Henry Clay has always had talent and have probably won fewer games than the might should have through the years.

 

Isaiah Tisdale is not a 100% and that is scary to think about.

Holmes might be a little overrated in the top 10 but you guys are seriously sleeping on Henry Clay.

 

They came in preseason top 15-20 for a reason.

Henry Clay has a decent team, but the game simply boiled down to Holmes's lack of defensive effort in the second half. It was ugly. In the last few years they could get away with gambling a little bit because they could funnel players into shot blockers of Chames and Hill. They do not have that luxury anymore.

They didn't contain dribblers and rotations were non-existent. Plus, they were beaten down the floor in transition.

On defense, Henry Clay had some length at the guard spot and would run doubles at Bolden to force him to give up the ball and then would face guard him with others getting regular man to man treatment. Often times the ball would not return to him and others were forced to try and make plays.

Holmes is really going to miss Chames and Hill this year. Avery has improved but he is not the physical presence that Chames was or one that Hill developed into.

Beetle needs to play defense he is terrible in that area.. I say over rated.. Can't wait till NCC plays them..

He's not the best defender. I think part of that is simply because they need him to stay out of foul trouble.

Beetle didnt get that D-1 scholly based on tonight's game. He is good period, he will be dogged all season Long if teams are smart. I dont think Holmes has the supporting cast to beat the NCC's or CovCaths. They will need Beetle to pour in 30+ for that to happen. JMO
