So after reading this thread I guess it comes down to Beechwood not getting enough out of district talent?

Nope. That post was wrong in many ways. There are out about as many out of district players as usual on this year's team. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 starters who still live out of district and a few others whose family moved into district during middle school to get their kids into Beechwood.

I think the passing game took a back seat to the "jam it down your throats" mentality late in the year....because we can....and we did for the most part. The passing game needs to be simplified...in order to execute every play....not just most plays. I feel like Fieger is at his best on the short and mid range routes that are based on timing. He is a tremendous athlete who has the ability to make things happen at times...however, it just seemed to complicated at times...Stringer ran hard this year, didnt look to bounce everything outside. Would have liked to see more of him in the passing system. The run vs pass ratio needs to improve. I am checked out on "imposing your will" on a team...but, you have to make a team defend both in order to be top notch. BW is able to do both and will next year....a better mix and a simplified plan should make a difference.

If everyone comes back, Beechwood will be very good next year. Like you said, skill players are never a problem at Beechwood. There are always very good skill players. The line is what decides how good Beechwood is each year. With Combs and Overstreet back, the line will be good. You can build a very good line around those two. So player wise, Beechwood will be right at the top of 1A where they always are.

I think philosophy, strategy, playbook changes, etc. are where evaluation needs to happen. I have never liked our pass game plays. It has improved and it needs to improve more. That is my big area of focus - how does Beechwood get better throwing the ball?

Totally agree. I think the line will be just fine. I see some real talent on the sidelines and playing on JV and expect we will stay in good shape there. I expect that Rowe will be the center and he is a heck of an athlete and a hard worker.

Only for the apologists. These same people also claim that Beechwood was the Better team or that this was the Most Talented team since 2007. They just don't know which point to argue.

There's nothing different about the makup of team and we clearly had tremendous talent regardless of in-district or out-of-district.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether all of the talented BW Juniors will be back for their Senior football season. I am not spreading anything (that is contagious anyway) or trying to stir the pot. I am referring to the group whose meal ticket into D1 is through baseball. Was Stringer's injury Friday a concussion? If so, does he risk a scholarship to Louisville to play baseball? Does Combs risk his opportunity with UK baseball? Most pundits have Slusher tagged for D1 baseball as well. And, possibly Fieger? Or, with MF out of the way, do they seize the opportunity for one last shot at a 1A ring?

I have thought for years, as I am sure you know, that this is the issue. How to fix is complicated. I came to the conclusion that Rash needs to bring in outside help. The current staff for starters has never really even attempted to be balanced but even when they do pass it is not fluid. I think an assistant that has been successful with the spread will fix it and more balanced play calling

Doesn't Mayfield have some coaches that are spread offense savvy?

Toothpick and Snot don't own the patent on Mayfield threads. Heck...truth be told Toothpick doubted on Mayfield all year...

Excuse our rookies

Lets keep this one on its intended target and show the Tigers some class guys. While we have taken all 7 meetings its not like they have not been our most worthy adversary. In each of the last 5 years they were the best team we faced in my opinion. No offense H fans

The more I think about it, you are right. Even when they pass it looks awkward even though Fieger has a good arm. I do not see progressions developing in the plays. As my favorite quality guru Deming said many times, "Fix the system. It's not the people."

Hatchell, who moved to SC in the offseason ran it as a college QB at Murray State and of course Tony Franklin use to be on the Cards staff, so yes and a Hatchell type is what I think the Tigers need

Rookies excused. Just beginning their BGP careers with shock and awe.

I would agree, certainly not a lack of talent just a lack of knowing how to use it best

Talking about changing the offense up, I'm sure BW fans aren't familiar with Graves Co. at all, but they decided to go to the spread offense before last season. Most local fans (myself included) thought they would not be able to run it successfully. Maybe we thought they didn't have the athletes needed to be productive with that scheme, idk. But look where they are now, only 2 years into this change. It may not have anything to do with their success, but it is a pretty dramatic change for their program. I think BW could do very well with a more open offense. This does not mean you have to have a 60-40 run pass ratio, the running game would still be a huge part of the offense. Just think how good those backs could be with the defense spread out, and going one on one with a LB or DB. I know we are not the coaches for a reason, but I would love to have the OC job at BW!
