Now for the Yeagle & Noel separation - Practically the same Coaches, but Yeagle had 7 Coaches in the Building - Noel is the only Teacher - If U have Coaches talking to Student's - 4 or 5 might want to come out for football - next if You look back - We always had a Star Running Back & linemen from out of district - The Supt. Controls that based on Freshmen Tests - There is an arbitrary score line - say 85 - example is Niko Typel - scored around that, but He has an accounting degree from Ohio University - Menetree is another - Has Doctorate - The current Administration will Only take scores of 95 or higher - so as to keep Beechwood State Scores High - another Factor is Bob Meirhoff ( former Baseball Coach that Beechwood Fired ). Would bring in top Athletes like Curley, Elliott, & Sawyer who Also played football - Now the most controversy is How the Band use to have 60 And now has 100 - Due to two Principals in a row how were band people - The last Principal that Was a Football Man was Skip Hicks and Last but not least is team speed that Mayfield Has - Speed Kills !

BW already has an out of district RB in their backfield. Going forward, no matter who is principal, where are the out of district kids going to come from if Dixie and Simon continue to win 10+ games a year? All will be well in Tigerland next year when when BW waltzes to another title in a Mayfield-Less 1A.

hey this is my first post.

First, congrats to Beechwood on a lot of heart. good game, well played.

I would like to also disagree with the sentiment that Beechwood is the better team, expressed in this thread, expressed by the coach in the cincy paper, and expressed pretty much yearly in my view.

I kinda see why one MIGHT think that, apart from the obvious reason of perspective from a hometown fan. You guys whipped us on the line of scrimmage this year, resulting in a lot of positive yard runs for you, and a lot of stuffs on the defensive side. Usually, the better team controls the line of scrimmage. but..that is a narrow point of view in determining the "better team."

in all other aspects of the game, Mayfield was superior. Offensively, we moved the ball in the air. BW could neither cover our receivers or put pressure on the qb. so yeah, you stopped the run, which was impressively done. but it kinda is myopic vision to get all fired up about how good the run defense is when our receivers are scoring 99 yard touchdowns and generally just taking everything they want.

which leads to another aspect of the game, versatility. coach joe's comments made it clear that he was using the clock, by continuing to run when it wasnt effective, knowing BW cant catch up quickly. in other words, i guess we could have passed more...but we did things and made decisions designed to win the game and in part those decisions were based on a weakness of the opponent. that's good coaching i think.

like i said, i get it, i get the idea that you think you were the better team b/c of the line of scrimmage, but it stopped there. wanna know why you had those long sustained drives? because you controlled the line of scrimmage but didnt really have any "take it to house" ability. your most exciting plays, the ones that appeared to have the most potential to "take it to the house" were the kickoff returns, the qb scrambling out of pressure and a fake punt.

anyway, i guess i joined to make this reply, i dont blame someone for saying "we were the better team" you kinda need that attitude to be great. but from our perspective, it just seems like every year we beat BW, and we get told, "good game but we were better team, its just a shame we didnt get the breaks we needed." and then the next year we are told how this years team is better than last years team and then the whole process is repeated. i guess not anymore, i just wish we could play BW some more, just to see how many times we have to beat BW before someone from BW admits that they arent the better team.

Nice first post and welcome to BGP.

Your QB made very good decisions. But he threw an inteception and was 8-14, so it wasn't easy. Beechwood did get pressure and deflected passes at the line (good strategy by BW coaches). It is very difficult to pressure Mayfield's QB because the passing scheme is based on a quick release - bubble passes, slants, curls and the long passes are get rid of it quick, throw it up and let your receiver make the play. You had 3 big pass receptions that accounted for almost all your yardage. Your receivers did make plays against our DB's and Mayfield had the advantage there. Beechwood receivers also made plays - Slusher and Burns had TD receptions - so Beechwood's passing game was not incapable. Slusher's catch was a one on one play over your DB so the BW passing game made plays. Mayfield made more big plays and Beechwood made more mistakes. The turnovers were a big factor.

I am just the messenger.

Love me some Skip Hicks!

I have to disagree, Mayfield was better, period. While obviously the Tigers were better uo front, no question, that's only part of the game. I'm sure every year we have played Beechwood they were better in some aspect of the game, but, they can't get the win, whatever the reason. Speed, coaching, execution, special teams, a part of THE WHOLE. Beechwood had a Great program, but Mayfield had proven that we have been the best team, every time we have played them, period, the record proves it. You may have landed more jabs, or left hooks, may of had us on the ropes, or knocked us down, but in the end, you either got knocked out or lost the decision on points, either way, we won, so I have to say WE WERE THE BEST TEAM, again.

It took less then 24hrs for the bullets to start flying. Not surprised. Congrats to the Mayfield Cardinals and good luck next week. As far as Beechwood goes, we'll say goodbye to a awesome group of seniors, get back in the weight room, put the puzzle together, and come out punching in 2015. That's the cycle of life...

The Mayfield posters have a good point. I always hate it when people say the better team lost. I am not saying that. Mayfield was the better team last night. Scoreboard tells the story. I am just saying that last night was the first time I walked out of the stadium feeling like Beechwood was the better team. Even in the last second loss in 2011 I didn't feel Beechwood was better leaving the stadium. That was an even match and a disappointing loss. I did not feel Beechwood was better. I felt Beechwood could beat Mayfield but not that they were better.

But the bottom line is the scoreboard. Mayfield was the better team last night and they deserve all the respect and accolades for getting the win.

IMO, "we were the better team" conversation should be left to when you are with all your buddies having a cold one. It doesn't come across very well on here. I've followed Mayfield for many years (decades) and listened to the game last night. It would be hard pressed by anyone not wearing Tiger glasses to believe you were the overall better team. I respect Beechwood's football program but this is the kind of talk that has trickled down to WestKY in the past that sometimes puts you guys in a bad light.

I still think it comes down to coaching and executing. Mayfield clearly won that battle last night. Mayfield bent last night but did not break. When Beechwood put points on the board we countered and answered right back. I thought Beechwood had a very good team but we were still better. I wish this series between the two would continue because I enjoy watching these teams go at it. I have always thought in all previous games that Mayfield has won the battle in the trenches which in IMO was the reason we had won those ball games. Beechwood clearly won the line play last night but it wasn't the difference maker. We made the big plays and they didn't. That shows you that we are a good football team. The only way I thought Beechwood would beat us was to pass the ball more. Their QB looked very good to me and thought they had the offense to do that but chose to rely on the run more. Beechwood stopped our run so we went to the air and it was effective. Again I thought our coaching staff did a great job last night and our boys executed!!!!

I can't argue with this.

One thing that impressed me about BOTH teams equally. There were many points in the game where we, as fans, felt like "this is it" Mayfield felt like ah, now we can put the game away and Beechwood felt like ah, this is it, we are going to come back and win. Many points where momentum could have swung. But both teams answered every time. The kids didn't let momentum swing, they just kept answering each other.

I agreee... BW controlled the line of scrimmage. They were the better team last night and the better team lost. You can't turn the ball over that much and expect to win. I think MF coaches know this. Take that to 2a, knowing you were the 2nd best team this year. You're welcome for the going away gift.
