Courier Journal Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll

Featured Replies

These were probably done before word was out on Tisdale being out for the year. I say that because there is a note on the player rankings that he would have been included based on the number of votes he received.

I don't know if I could put Ballard at No.2, and I am not sure about Hoptown being top 5 either. I have more opportunity to watch Hoptown play being I am in WKy. I think Taylor County will end up being a top 10 team and I am really interested to see how Owensboro progresses this year. My top 5 are:

Trinity

Knott County Central

Newport Central

Scott County

Wayne County

The problem is outside of tournaments and scouting coaches don't have time to watch other teams. If you are in Louisville you have no clue about most 1st and 16th region teams and same goes for all the other regions. They do not know if a JV team was good and that group is coming up so they just have to go by word of mouth and go on who was good the year before.

Makes it hard for preseason rankings.

Why all the love for Scott Co?

Jenkins and Guyn are a nice duo but outside of those two, I see nobody that can elevate them to the elite level in the state. (Top 5)

I think the top 4 teams are:

Trinity

Newcath

Ballard

Knott Co

I won't attempt to finish the top 10 but I do think both Holmes and Covcath belong in the 5-10 range more than a few other teams listed there and I'd have both ranked ahead of Scott Co. Holmes beat Scott Co last night in a real game setting and I think Covcath's depth and physical defense would really wear them down.

Because they always seem to finish the season in the top 5. May as well put them there to start the season.

I guess it depends on the status of Johnson. I wouldn't have them in the top 5 right now and probably back end of top 10 to start the season.

No argument there.

Since when is a scrimmage game in Nov. a real game setting, would you compare to a district or regional tournament,,I was at the Holmes/SC game,,,,at this point neither team should not mentioned even the 15 in the state..

Was it not four 8 minute quarters with both coaches playing their primary rotation and trying to win?

I'm going to guess the answer is yes, so how was it not a real game setting? Admittedly, I'm going purely off stats and what coaches/others there told me, but both teams stuck to a tight rotation compared to when I saw them over the summer.

You get a lot more out of a game like this than what you will see during summer ball.

I'm not as high on SC as others on here, but I still think both teams are top 10-12 in the state and better than you are giving them credit for with the "not top 15" comment.

I'm surprised any 4th Region teams would make the top 25 let alone two.

did they have the regional rankings?

Teams in the top 25 by region:

1 - 0

2 - 2

3 - 2

4 - 2

5 - 2

6 - 3

7 - 4

8 - 0

9 - 3

10 - 1

11 - 3

12 - 1

13 - 0

14 - 2

15 - 0

16 - 0

Ballard has no business starting at 2. And until we see who Doss rolls out from their fball squad, how in the world do you rank them correctly?

I think there are more than one team in 12th region that should be on this list.. Boyle Co.,Lincoln Co.....

I do not put a whole of stock in the summer games as far as team play, yes the game was played by the rules of a real game setting, but do you really think the same intensity level was there? As far as the preseason polls they are anyones projections..
