Courier Journal Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll

Featured Replies

I do not put a whole of stock in the summer games as far as team play, yes the game was played by the rules of a real game setting, but do you really think the same intensity level was there? As far as the preseason polls they are anyones projections..

I can guarantee neither team's players wanted to lose and if they were lacking intensity they wouldn't be on the floor.

Yeah,,,,,16 and 17 turnovers,,,,both teams were at the top of their game.....

Where would you put Knott County Central at? Top 5? Top 10?
Probably in the 11-15 range in the state....you will find this to be true as season progresses
My only question is if Knott should be 2 or 3.
No way.......you will see

Some questions will be answered at Knott on Saturday at 7 when Trinity comes to Hindman.

I cant pretend to know a whole lot about teams outside western KY, but from all of these posts ill make this observation........Its Trinity and everyone else. Looks like everyone has different opinions on a top 5. Tells me there arent any real clear cut choices as of the preseason. I would keep your eye on Owensboro. They are VERY talented and have one of, if not the best, frontcourt outside of Trinity. They will return all 5 starters from last seasons 3rd region championship squad. Im not so sure I wouldnt have them in the top 5.

Apollo hosts Doss this Saturday in a scrimmage. I got a chance to speak to coach Barker yesterday and Apollo is very much looking forward to seeing how they stack up with Doss. Barker said he views them as a top 10 team statewide, as this poll indicates. Should be a good one!

I agree with all that you have said. I do think it will be hard to judge Doss seeing as how their football players just returned to the court this week if they even came back. From what I hear Tyler Jefferson makes a huge difference in the Doss lineup.

Since when is a scrimmage game in Nov. a real game setting, would you compare to a district or regional tournament,,I was at the Holmes/SC game,,,,at this point neither team should not mentioned even the 15 in the state..

I was in attendance and pretty up-close for the varsity and JV contests this past Tuesday -- both teams and both staffs clearly were treating this like a regular-season game, and that perception has been reinforced by the attitudes and behaviors of Holmes players during the rest of the week.

We all expect players and squads to improve as the season unfolds, but right now the rankings for Scott Cty. and Holmes seem perfectly reasonable unless 1) you want to quibble about their rank relative to one another or 2) you've witnessed most or all early scrimmages involving ranked teams.

Agreed. I dont put a lot of stock in scrimmages anyway. Some coaches play to win and some play to try different things. Im just excited I finally get to see Apollo back on the court vs someone other than each other. I'll keep you guys posted.

Whatever...............................time will tell..

Of course, time will tell -- that is the point of any preseason poll. In the meantime, "whatever" is a response most folks abandon right after middle school.

Check the BGP preseason poll thread... he's hating on the same teams there as well.
