Not a very good football team playing not very good football. Will UK ever compete for elite status in the SEC? Hasn't happened in my lifetime. That's long enough for me to say no.

Since I posted the question...here's my take.

 

UK has regressed. It's the LAST thing you want to see a building program do as the season goes along. You want to see improvement every game. That hasn't happened. Many many times these past few games UK has looked lost on both sides of the ball. I'm starting to wonder now how much of that is on the coaches. Good coaches can scheme around some weaknesses and "out coach" the other guy when maybe they don't have the talent to stand toe to toe and slug it out. I haven't seen that happen.

 

As for games some people are hanging their hats on. UK beat a down USC...and if not for Spurrior losing his mind and going away from the run and for some reason start throwing the ball all over the place, UK probably doesn't win that game. Remember USC had run all over UK up to that point and had not comer close to stopping their running attack. People are still scratching their heads over that one. They lost in OT to a struggling UF team that is pretty atrocious on offense and got their coach fired effective end of the year. They gave it a go against Miss State...a Miss State team that had statistically the worst defense in the SEC at the time lets not forget.

 

If UK doesn't re-group and beat UofL...and especially if UofL beats UK fairly handily...then I don't think the season can be viewed a success, even after winning more games than many predicted, not with the way they have finished the season.

Last year they were horrible, had a good recruiting class

This year they are mediocre, going to have another good class

Next year they probably will be average, with another good class coming in. 6-7 win range.

Then in the 4th year I can see UK maybe wining 9 games depending on how they develop, and if they can keep this trajectory of recruiting.

I'm not sure we can even go as far as to say they were mediocre this year. Just because they won a few more games in my mind isn't the deciding factor. HOW they competed during the season to me is a far bigger factor. They could have been just as successful winning 3 games yet competing much better in many of their loses and showing some life in those games and at least looking better as the season went on, not worse.

 

Lets just use the UT game as an example. Both teams in similar situations. UK is completely overwhelmed, KNOWING they are fighting for a bowl bid. They just can't lose a game like that, not in that fashion, and have me think they are showing the progress they should or we would hope to be seeing at this point.

Isn't UT playing more freshmen than anyone in the country? They didn't look "tired"...

I think that's Vandy as the youngest team in the country

Is Kentucky better this year compared to last?

I think so.

 

They had a super weak non-conference schedule and they defeated those bad teams they had as they should have.

They also beat a bad South Carolina team that played poorly in defeat.

They also beat a horrible Vandy team.

 

The bottom line s they are a tiny bit better but playiong such a weak non-league schedule did nothing to prepare them for the conference.

 

 

If they continue to pick up left overs in the states they recruit then this is what you will get.

 

I hope they can become a top 20 type team, but with the current set up with their recruiting I do not see this being the case.

Never get to the 6-7 wins per season......to get to 9 wins is completely impossible......unless UK goes to MAC conference as I have suggested on here before

They are one win away from a 6 win in year 2... They have a terribly thin roster and still have won 5 games and 2 SEC games, I don't care the circumstances for which they happened. To say they can't get to 6-7 wins is asinine considering it has a chance to happen next week. Come on man...

So your willing to toss a couch out the door without having a chance. That's the problem with Kentucky football as much as anything else. How do you expect to build a program that quick when its been in the gutter for years? It takes years of recruiting to overcome the obstacles Stoops has faced. Yet half of the so called fans are willing to boycot the program if they can't contend within a couple of years.

If UK loses to UofL... .....They will be 5-7 / O road wins.

 

Which is 1 or 2 more wins than I had said and the exact amount of road wins I thought.

I hope I am wrong and the Cats get the much needed HUGE Win over U.L..

Excuse my French but how the hell does someone talking about UK/UL Game have to do with the UL / ND game ? :lol2:, just kidding, I know that city by the river plays ND first.

BTW - I will be rooting for ND in that one.
