Cooper is a 5a Team. A good 5a team for our district. Dixie is a very good 6a team Simon Kenton is a good 6a team. Check the games Cooper played this year. They beat two 6a teams went 3-1 in their district and tied for #1 in their district. Their final league play ended with a 6-4 record. Three of those losses came against 6a teams and one of those losses came late in the game where Cooper led into the 4th qtr.

 

No one expected that Cooper was going to be able to contend with Dixie or Simon Kenton. Those two teams are heads above our 5a teams. They should have won and they should have won big. As a matter of fact those are the only two teams that blew out Cooper.

 

Cooper won't be playing 6a teams in the playoffs, they'll be playing 5a teams against who the are more evenly matched.

 

Next year Cooper moves to 6a and they will have the same team that went 6-4 this year. I don't know how many returning players SK will have but I expect that Cooper will hold its own in the district next year.

 

Let's just wait and see how far they can go in the 5a playoffs this year before we decide they are terrible or absolutely horrible they are shall we.

Clearly, Dixie was significantly better than Cooper. The speed difference was palpable and that can't be fixed. You either have it or you don't.

 

I did know that there was a class size difference between the two schools. But IMHO, that shouldn't matter to a school like Cooper. They are big enough and experienced enough as a program that they should NEVER get beaten like that...ever. Someone else mentioned that they looked like they quit. That is EXACTLY what they looked like.

 

I am intrigued to watch Cooper once the playoffs start.

I will not go as far to say that Cooper is horrible,, but this is not the team I saw play against Ryle or Scott. The defense that was running around and hungry was not the team on the field. From what I saw tonight was a team that appeared to lay down on their coach. Over and over I saw their coach meet them on the field trying to get them up and motivated and they walked around lifeless. There was one team that showed up to play tonight,, unfortunately for Cooper,, they were wearing red.

 

I asked the question a couple of weeks ago if the wheels on the Cooper bus were getting loose. From the way they played tonight,, I would not be reserving the bus to Bowling Green as of yet. This team does not look primed for a run in the playoffs,, which is a shame because I thought they would be a contender from how they looked at the beginning of the season.

 

I agree with you, and will elaborate more after season. Someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee! This was not the Cooper team anyone expected.

A big key in progressing in 6A is having kids that play one side of the ball and developing depth. Cooper still struggles with that.

Yes they do struggle with that. Part of that is due to having all but three (it might be four on both sides of the ball) starters being sophomores and juniors. This team, next year will be starting mostly seniors. My guess is they will be more mature and more improved. But I gotta say. I'm not disappointed with this year's Cooper team. For a team playing almost all underclassmen, this Cooper team has exceeded before the season's start expectations.

You said they would have no chance with teams like Trinity..i wasn't sure what else you need to see to know that Dixie has a great all around team to go deep in the playoffs.

CF's wording may have been harsh and his measuring stick may be the top schools in Cincinnati. However, Cooper isn't very good. Decent.

This we can agree on, but at the same time, the truth be told, KY football and especially the schools he is ripping do things a bit differently than his Cincinnati brethren as we don't get the luxury of recruiting players as many Cincinnati Schools do. I sure would hope there would be a difference in competition as schools on this side of the river have to rebuild within.

I will stand by my thought that this game didn't matter to me and I was looking to next week but wow. That showing makes me a little nervous for next week although Dixie has an incredible team this year. They have a good shot to make it to Bowling Green! Represent NKY well!

 

As far as Cooper, take this one on the chin and learn from it. This game meant very little as far as playoffs and the ultimate prize but if they play like they did last night next week the season will be over. Last night looked like a team that didn't want to be there. It was tough to watch. Hopefully the boys realize that it is now win or go home and they lock back in and come together after that embarrassing performance

I would love to know what you use as far as a measuring stick to know when a team is experienced enough.

 

You do realize Cooper is a new school that is still in it's infancy right? They are still only 8 years old. The first 2 years of the schools existence they were playing Freshman just to fill out the varsity roster. They aren't a school that was built to combine a couple schools, they are a public school that was built in addition to 3 other public county High Schools in the area. Yes they had a great run in 2012, but then again that team was full of special players and it was a very heavy upperclassman squad that the starters were all made up of JR's and SR's in 2012. Last years team said goodbye to the remaining starters on that state team and also said goodbye to every skill position starter from the prior 2 years.

 

This years team had 1 lineman and last years backup rb returning on offense and that same lineman and another starting on defense line. That was it as far as returning starters. That my friend is how Cooper transitioned from State runner up to a team that still with all the losses to graduation last year ended up with this team that still tied for 1st place in their district. So yes, they got their butts handed to them last night, but it was actually expected because Dixie is very very good.

 

So they lost 38-8, it's not the end of the world. Playoffs start next week and I would invite you as my guest to Cooper High School next Friday night to watch how they fair in the playoffs.

What a great night for football. Let me start by saying, if this had been a fight, it would have been stopped after the first round. No disrespect to Cooper, I do think they have a nice team, but Dixie is playing on a completely different level. I hate it when people get on here and say how bad a team is, or looks. How about giving credit where credit is due, Dixie IS just this good. Thought Dixie looked VERY fast, and physical up front. #7, #27,#76, #58, #33 could and would start on ANY team in NKY. The way the playoffs are set this year, I really think this Dixie team can get to Western, KY and play for ALL the marbles, will they, who knows, but at this point, I sure wouldn't be betting against them, Dixie is rolling, and at the right time. Looked like both teams came out injury free as well, which is a great thing. Best of luck to both team going forward.
