Well this news stinks. Do we have any idea how long?

After seeing Drew Moore first hand I will say that he's not the most talented runner but a very good one. He is also an adequate passer as all his balls were on target. Passing should not hinder their offense at all. What stood out about Drew was his vision and football brain on when to keep and when to give. He made a few mistakes against Ryle, but for the most of the night when he kept it it was the right decision and led to big gains. He would not get as many yards if he lined up at say, tail back, so I can't say he's a great runner, but in the read option offense he is GREAT! If you can't seal the edge and make him give it ( and you better have two good ML to eat it up if he does ) Drew and Dixie will kill you. Then they will sneak a back out to the flat who will be by himself and the band and Drew can more than make those throws. They have tailored that offense to fit their strengths and are very good at running it. I was impressed, everyone does their job. It' s a hard offense to stop because you have to be disciplined and win your one on ones with them. The first round will be a breeze in the playoffs for them. Then it may be a rematch against SK or Ryle. Couldn't write a better script. It will be fun to watch! (cue UK fan LOL)

When I say great runner, I of course am referring to a great running QB. In no way am I ever going to think he'd be a great RB simply because of his height alone would hinder that. He reminds me of another running QB but this other QB would run you over, something Drew Moore will never do, and that is the Campbell County QB of 1012...name escapes me. He and Drew were the only QB's in this area that ever worried me with their feet that Cooper played against.

It seems to me that every time Dixie rolls over an opponent, people want to blast on the defeated opponent and say they stink. Maybe Dixie is that good people. Maybe Cooper looked bad because Dixie is that much better than them. Maybe Simon Kenton looked bad because Dixie is that much better than them. Many Beechwood fans went crazy when Dixie rolled them. Hey people ... maybe Dixie is that good. I say stop kicking Cooper and give Dixie all the credit because they have proven week after week all season long that they are that good.

As for Dixie, they've got a few players, no question. The QB, #7, is special. Throws a nice ball and can really move when he gets in open space. Long strides eat up a lot of yards. #27, the RB, is a player. He is short but hits the hole hard and is going to outrun most defenses he plays. The WR, #8, is big and has good hands. The lines played well as well but I really can't tell if that was them being good or Cooper being unbelievably inept.

Dixie is that good imo. They had 1 bad game, as do most teams and before they knew it they had to abandoned their game plan and go to airing the ball out against Cov Cath. when they fell behind after 2 quick punt returns at the beginning of the game.

 

You and I both know how good Beechwood is, we also know that SK isn't a slouch either and Campbell isn't the worst team either in the area and if my memory serves me correctly Dixie has scored 122 points against those teams and only allowed 31 points.

 

Dixie against Cooper, Simon Kenton, Campbell Co. have scored 120 points and only allowed 18 pts.

 

Dixie is good folks, rip Cooper all you want but when you do you are simply ignoring the fact that Dixie is really really good.

So, I decided to treat myself to a little NKY football tonight. So I headed out to Dixie tonight to catch the Jags and Colonels go at it. Figured this would be one-sided affair, but still good football to watch.

 

That...was a mistake.

 

Cooper is terrible. I mean...absolutely horrible. Can someone please explain to me how a program who played for a state title just a few short years ago got that bad, that quickly?? I mean, my goodness...

 

As for Dixie, The lines played well but I really can't tell if that was them being good or Cooper being unbelievably inept.

 

But lets be clear on one thing. Dixie is NOT competing with the powers in Louisville.

 

On a side note, I love Dixie's new stadium area. I am very surprised at how small the visitors side is. 5 rows of benches? Really? I imagine CovCath has trouble getting seats for all their fans when they travel down Dixie highway. Also, LOVE the ticket prices! $5 adults/$3 students?? Are you kidding me? Now I know why all you NKY curmudgeons complain when the Showdown tries to charge $10/ticket. You need to take out a loan from Uncle Sal to make it work!

That should about sum it up. I understand maybe you had a bad piece of fish for dinner or something but you were pretty harsh especially when you admit you know nothing about the two programs because it was the first time you've seen them. As far as Dixie's line, yes they are that good, they have 2 DI players including their Tight End on the line, show me any other team in NKY with that many DI players on the line. Yes Cooper looked bad last night, don't judge a team and their season by 1 game. Do you say the same about Simon Kenton? They only put up 2 more pts than Cooper against Dixie and allowed Dixie to put up 36 on them, only 2 less than Cooper. So giving an opinion is fine, but when you trash them the way you did I'd rather not have to read your opinion in future threads unless yo know more about the teams you are talking about. VOR put it perfectly, yes Dixie is that good period. Cooper has won 6 games and tied for district title, a terrible and absolutley horrible team does not do that. Remember Cooper also beat a couple 6A teams including Ryle this year too.

 

Now you asked about how Cooper who was a state finalist just a few years ago can go from that to what they did last night. I will try and help you with that.

 

Cooper is a brand new school, they didn't build a new school to combine other schools into it, it is a new public high school in a closed enrollment area thata already has 3 other public high schools. They are only 8 years old, the first couple years they had to play freshman on the varsity team just to fill the roster.

 

In 2012 the team was filled with special players. That year the entire starting lineups were made of upperclassmen, all JR's and SR's. After graduation last year all those players who led the Jags to Bowling Green were gone. This years team had 2 returning starters on offense (actually 1 because the RB started the season as the backup RB last year) and the other offensive player returning was a lineman. The defense had that same returning lineman plus one other lineman returning. So in reality there were only 3 returning starters to this years team. Every skill position on offense was filled by new players compared to the starting offense from just a year ago. The defense was also entirely new players. This years team is made up of JR's and Sophomores with just a couple SR's sprinkled in with the starters.

 

Something I have to add...those 3 returning starters I talked about...well they were all sophomores last year which should say a lot also.

 

So you want to know why they have "fallen" so much from 2012, that is why. Although winning or tying for district titles in 3 of the last 4 years isn't that bad if you ask me.
