October 28, 201411 yr Six University of Cincinnati football players have been arrested in just two months. In the newest incident, according to Hamilton County Court documents, sophomore line-backer Marcus Tappan, 19, is charged with disorderly conduct, underage drinking and having a fake ID after trying to break into a house in the 2400 block of Ohio Avenue near campus. Court records said Tappan was slurring his speech, smelled of alcohol and admitted he drank when police arrested him around 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said Tappan threw bricks through a window and was seen climbing in to retrieve property. October 28, 201411 yr I'm a Tommy fan as a person off the field (heck, he loves golf even more than I do, and I didn't think that was possible), but when your head coach is only somewhat checked in, you'll have these things. Is it the cause of them? No. However, it exacerbates the situation when everyone knows the coach is not killing himself on the job, AND your players are getting arrested / into trouble at an alarming rate. I am certain that Tommy and Whit had an understanding when he was hired, not expecting you to kill yourself, big name, win the press conference, need a splash, etc.... Now that Mike Bohn is in there, I'd be interested to see how that dynamic is going and if the expectations placed upon Tommy have changed. GT, can you give some thoughts there? Thanks. I get the first part, but on the flip side the off field stuff was far worse under BK and he is the biggest control freak on the planet. Reality is when you have 100 kids on a team between 18-23 some of them will be idiots from time to time. The two seem to be getting along fine, but we both know Tommy was clearly Whit's guy so we'll see how it develops... Did UC hire a semi-retired football coach? Posts in here seem to acknowledge it. I hope not as the program has done some really good things in the last decade, and the school is spending a lot of money on football facilities. Based on the quoted posts though, seems to be the case. I wasn't a fan of the Tuberville hiring and my opinion hasn't changed. I don't think he's a very good coach if fully invested.
October 28, 201411 yr Nothing. The Evans situation is the only one that might amount to anything more than underage drinking. Makes for good headlines though, so they need to clean it up... If you remove the alcohol from the equation he likely doesn't do stupid stuff. I'd say make him go to an alcohol class
October 28, 201411 yr Remember four of them happened at the same time when a party got broken up. Cops showed up and the under age drinkers were cited. Saying they were arrested is stretching for sensationalism... Meh. I agree with you on that. Not what you want, but really not that bad. Nothing some wall sits and laps can't cure. In fact if it's like you say and 4 of the 6 were underage drinking charges then this threads a bit over the top.

Can you not have a decent conversation without blowing a gasket and throwing personal punches. I have tried to reply to your post in a respectful manner, but your mindset is ridiculous. October 28, 201411 yr Now go back and read what I actually said. If you feel the punishment need not meet the crime so long as you get to "send a message" then there is a you problem. As a head coach you are responsible for developing young men, and the message that would send is entirely wrong. I'm not lopping off a finger to prove a point when my 4 year old sneaks in a few cookies she was told not to eat. Kicking a kid off the team for drinking on an off night is way overboard...

Hopefully that means anyone that gets suspended still has to spend significant time with the team. Give college kids free time and they will find something to get into. Any kid for that matter. Which is why you don't kick them off the team.
