Six University of Cincinnati football players have been arrested in just two months.

 

In the newest incident, according to Hamilton County Court documents, sophomore line-backer Marcus Tappan, 19, is charged with disorderly conduct, underage drinking and having a fake ID after trying to break into a house in the 2400 block of Ohio Avenue near campus.

 

Court records said Tappan was slurring his speech, smelled of alcohol and admitted he drank when police arrested him around 1 a.m. Sunday.

 

Police said Tappan threw bricks through a window and was seen climbing in to retrieve property.

Like I said, they need to clean it up, but so far it is nothing more than college kids being stupid...

 

Gametime, it's more than college kids being stupid. These athletes have been given a special honor and privilege to represent a University in a manner that respects themselves as well as the University. If they can't be smart enough to know right from wrong and how to behave in public, the University shouldn't be wasting scholarship money on them. There are several student/athletes with common sense and much better character that get passed up by some of these "athletic" "irresponsible" acting idiots. It's not just a UC thing, so don't get too defensive, but after the first few incidents, you think they would learn as a team how to behave. A person very close to the UC football program and the CPD told me of several major incidents that were swept under the rug when BK was there. The UC football team just seems to have a culture that needs to change, unless that's what they like, and it won't start until they start making some examples of the violators.

I actually really like Tommy. I think UC is lucky to have him, to be honest. For once, we may have a coach who isn't just using us for a better gig in a year or two. He's been there done that.

 

I actually put a LOT/MOST/ALMOST ALL of the blame on the athletes. When you sign on to play college athletics and/or pro athletics, you are not only signing away 95% of your free time, but also accepting acknowledgment that there is a huge lens directly on you at all times. You don't get the luxury of being a typical college kid. The expectations are higher. You don't put yourself in positions to screw up. If that means missing out on drinking on a Saturday night? Oh well. Too bad. Tons of guys would love to be in your position.

 

My younger brother played athletics at UC and now plays pro ball. I saw MANY nights where he was home in bed getting ready for practice or a game as opposed to out running around at the bars and parties. Not to say he skipped every single one, but he didn't put himself in situations that could compromise anything and he still doesn't today. You can have fun without doing all of that. It means sacrifice but you can still have fun. If you can't do that, you don't deserve to wear the jersey.

Based on the arrest tally, they should be a good team before too much longer.

Bottom line is 6 arrest is not college kids being college kids. Tuberville needs to throw a few off the team to send a message.

Exactly! If he's thinking about their future, let them know this is not acceptable. You can remain a student at the university, get a job, and pay your tuition, because your irresponsible actions don't deserve a NCAA scholarship. Their future with football is a lot shorter than their future of being a responsible acting individual. These are college young men, not high school kids living with mom and dad! I don't think anyone here has made a hypocritical statement. If it looks like a duck, it is a duck..take it out.

If what I have heard on the Evans case is true, the "victim" deserved what he got and then some. I don't know exactly how it happened and suspending Evans until it is resolved is more than fair.

 

I have no doubt a suspension for Tappan will be announced tomorrow at the weekly press conference and that will last until what happened is resolved.

 

Or better yet, he can just pull all of their scholarships and cut the cord due to too many minor incidents happening in a short time. Screw the kids. Adults want justice...
