October 23, 201412 yr I all honesty you could list the Highwaymen and be done. I personally like John Prine quite a bit as well. I like George Strait quite a bit but the guy doesn't write any of his stuff so I can't inlcude him.
October 23, 201412 yr Gotta throw some love to my man, Kris Kristofferson too! I think he is one of the worst singers ever, like his songs, just not when he tries to sing them.
October 23, 201412 yr 1. 2. 3. 4. Rough night? Tossing and turning and didn't get any sleep? It's like you woke up bound and determined to hate on absolutely everything this morning. :lol2: He got distracted by a zeppelin.
October 23, 201412 yr Waylon Jones Hank I don't need four for my Mt Rushmore................heck, that almost sounds like a name of a country song......
October 23, 201412 yr We actually were talking about this in the office yesterday. How do you leave Garth Brooks off the mountain? I don't thin you can. Gotta go with: Hank Sr. George Jones George Straight Garth It's hard to leave Cash off...but to be honest I don't think he'd WANT to be on it if you know his history battling the traditional country music establishment in his heyday. I think if he were on the mountain, he'd prefer his backside up there rather than his head.
October 23, 201412 yr I think if he were on the mountain, he'd prefer his backside up there rather than his head. Or maybe just his middle finger salute!
October 23, 201412 yr Garth Brooks is single-handedly responsible from turning true country music into the "pop-country" of today. No way should he be on there IMO. Garth single-handedly made country radio and its performers a lot of money. This debate is no different than any era musical debate. Garth has to be on the mountain simply for the impact he made on the business.

October 23, 201412 yr Then you pretty much have to put Shania Twain up there for the females, don't you? if you are saying she is a female version of Garth Brooks then no she's not even close. Not remotely comparable.
October 23, 201412 yr Author Not for the mountain, but one country dude that I've always dug that never seems to get much notice is Don Williams.
October 23, 201412 yr Then you pretty much have to put Shania Twain up there for the females, don't you? No. Garth made males and females rich and famous.
October 23, 201412 yr Waylon Jones Hank I don't need four for my Mt Rushmore................heck, that almost sounds like a name of a country song...... Throw in a train, fishing, a trusty dog and a cheating woman and you got yourself a hit.
October 23, 201412 yr Charlie Pride Darius Rucker Aaron Neville Ray Charles Oh, sorry wrong mountain.

I just don't consider Garth, or pretty much anything on country radio today, country music. That's not to say I don't enjoy him or the stuff that's out now, just consider it a different genre.
