Is there a place for this in today's NFL?

I wasn't sure what Olsen was referring to when I first heard that he made some comments. I might have to agree with him after seeing the GIF.

Burfict was twisting ankles during the whole game. I hate dirty players.

Total joke from what I can see. The one on Newton, Burfict clearly lets go of the ankle once the play is over. Olson - I can't see anything in those pics except a guy making a tackle by grabbing an ankle. I guess the NFL is going to make tackling someone by holding onto their ankle another banned play now. We keep inching toward flag football in the NFL.

I heard Rocky Boiman commenting on these plays yesterday and he said it was ridiculous. That comes from an experienced NFL linebacker.

I bet you I can take any game film in the NFL and find a half dozen similar plays in every game.

Are you serious? The GIF on Olsen cuts off a second too soon but you can still see him grab his ankle under his arm (check the pictures at the bottom) after they are down and twist it by leaning back. The one on Newton is equally as blatant--he pulls the ankle up to his chest after they are on the ground. Both happened well after anything that has to do with tackling a player was over. I'd say the reaction by each player makes it obvious. Newton kicked at him and was close to getting a penalty. He's a dirty player, period.

As to Boiman, what's he supposed to say? He relatively new, he's a homer, and doesn't want to call out anyone who he has to deal with on a regular basis in the locker room.

Does it happen in other games? Yes. Doesn't make it right. Those players are dirty, too.

What happened to policing this stuff on the field? I'd be embarrassed if I was an NFL player to stand up and complain about this to the media, after the game. Handle it on the field or shut up.

The only way for Newton to handle it on the field would have resulted in a penalty that would have hurt his team. Newton thought about kicking Burfict in the head, but didn't. I think it showed maturity on Newton's part putting his team first.

Another way to handle it in the field is for the other team to take out Dalton as a message back. I don't think anyone wants to go there.

If Cam Newton doesn't have an Offensive Lineman that is willing to do the things necessary to make sure those things don't go on then Carolina needs some new Offensive linemen.

How do you do that without hurting your team? You're ok with Burfict being a dirty player? Like coldweatherfan said, if he kicks him in the head, he could have cost his team the game. Don't coaches teach to NOT react, to NOT retaliate? So, how exactly do you "handle it on the field"? As far as Olsen talking to the media about it, he was asked a question and answered it AND...he's exactly right.

It's funny how team allegiance changes your perspective.

He's dirty, half the league or more is dirty. Did you guys play high school football? This kind of stuff went on in every game I ever played in. You don't have to play dirty but I beleive if one of your teammates is on the bad end of a dirty play, especially your QB you do what ever is necessary to make it not in the offenders best interest to repeat his actions. Is not getting a 15 yard penalty worth Cam Newton being injured by a guy twisting his ankle? You handle it by a well placed helmet to the knee cap or playing through the end of the echo of the whistle. Maybe it's dirty too but I look at it as enforcing the golden rule.

No, there's no place for it in the NFL. He's a talent but he has to stop this garbage. It's just wrong plus it hurts his team. I heard a blurb this morning that in 37 college games he had 22 personal foul penalties!

Uncalled for and just plain wrong. Pretty obvious what he was doing. Doesn't matter if it is done by others intentionnally, if it even is, it's wrong. I would not be upset if he was suspended.

Not true in my case, Bengals fans loved to whine about Hines Ward and he's one of my favorite players to ever play.
