Pikeville should be #1, after that beechwood then mayfield. Mayfield is not as strong this year as these two. BUT, they will still beat beechwood to get to BG again where pikeville will win.

 

What a hater

Does Pikeville schedule any teams greater than 3A or no? I'm looking at their schedule and they have none. I find it hard for them to build a case for being more deserving of the #1 spot than Mayfield when the ONLY time mayfield would even dare play a 1A team is when they have to in district play. Graves County, Paducah Tilghman, freaking McCracken County or Caldwell County which remains for a Halloween showdown. That's 2 6A a 3A and arguably the best team in 2A. OR you can play sub par 1A and 2A teams and weak bottom of the barrel 3A teams like Sheldon Clark (1-7). You want to be the best, at least try and play the best. From the outside looking in that schedule seems weak, switch places we would be 7-0 and I'd bet they would be 4-3 if that.

 

They also beat Pburg who may very well be the favorite to reach Bowling Green in 2A. Russell is a Top 10 3A team who beat 4A Ashland and just stomped a previously undefeated 3A Mason County.

 

Playing 5A and 6A teams are great and all..but there is no 6A team within 3 hours of Pikeville and all the local 5A teams would be no contest much like Marshall County is a no contest for Mayfield. I know it is a scrimmage, but Pikeville scrimmaged 5A Perry Central and wore them out the past two years.

 

I would argue that 1A Hazard, 2A Pburg, and 3A Belfry is as impressive if not more than 6A Marshall County, 6A McCracken County, and 5A Graves County.

 

If any team shouldn't be able to play the "Bigger Class means Better" card it is Mayfield. The fanbase most synonymous with crowing how they are a 1A team who could play in any class. It's not about the enrollment of the school but about how good the team is on the field.

The Beechwood win over Franklin Co is about on par with Mayfield's win over Graves Co.. I don't think Dixie could beat Mayfield or Pikeville, as some continue to say Beechwoods losses would beat every other 1a team..DH is playing well right now, but, I would take McCracken Co over them and Mayfield played McCracken a lot better than Beechwood did DH.. The Cov Cath win has lost some of it's luster after they lost to Ryle, who is playing better, but, far from a standout team.. The Hazard win by Pikeville is probably not as good as Mayfields win over Tilghman.. Teams like to point to Tilghmans record, but, there 5 losses were to the #5 5a team in Indiana, who's 8-0, Rietz, #1 4a Highlands, #4 4a Mad'ville, #1 1a Mayfield and #10 6a McCracken Co.. Not too many 1a, 2a, 3a teams would fare much better against that type schedule.. The only win that really impresses me in this debate is the Pikeville win over Belfry. Nope. Have you seen Mayfield, Pikeville or any other 1a team except Beechwood? I'm not the one making a blanket statement that every 1a team would lose to Dixie and Mt Healthy and treating it as if it's a fact and can't be disputed.. Dixie is a good team, but, certainly not unbeatable. Pikeville could say there's not another 1a team that could beat Belfry or Mayfield could say there's not another 1a team that could hang with McCracken, but, those blanket statements are only coming from the Tigers. Even if the statement were true, which I'd take exception with, what point does it prove? Beechwood didn't beat either of them. Matter of fact, got hammered by Dixie and got down 4 scores to the other before scoring a couple of late TDs and making it respectable. So, even if no other 1a team could beat them, it doesn't prove that Beechwood's better or deserves a higher ranking just for playing them.

Ridiculous. No way those schools are close to McCracken. Marshall just isn't good at all. I may agree with you on Graves. Playing Graves helps with physicality. They produce the biggest team we deal with yearly.

The main point of everything in my opinion is that every team will match up differently. Some match ups we will not see. But Graves County did beat McCracken and Mayfield beat Graves and McCracken beat Mayfield. It's all about match ups..Mayfield is clearly #1 until beaten by a class A team.. Pikeville and Beechwood have impressive wins and both are very good teams and have solid arguments for #2. Williamsburg hasn't played anyone but they are solid as well and no one should over look them especially if they make it back to BG. They are several solid teams in Class A that could upset or beat any of the top 3 or 4 teams.. Hazard,Raceland,Frankfort,and Russellville all have shot in the playoffs.
