I use the eyeball test and I thought McCracken was pretty good. I think Mayfield is pretty good and when I see a better team in 1A ,I will say so. It will take a pretty good team in 1A to beat Mayfield and they better bring their "A" game cause that's what it's going to take.

FWIW, my eyeball test from what I have seen from McCracken is a very athletic and fast team that has some serious flaws. Not especially good up front, very limited passing ability.

 

From what I have seen McCracken and Henry Cay are essentially the same team offensively. McCracken is a little stronger defensively..but not by much.

I can't claim to know who is better than who but I will say that I feel that McCracken County is far and away the best team Mayfield has played this year. I also agree with Atlanta on McCracken County having some serious flaws that will get exposed in the playoffs. Graves is also a very good team with some major flaws. PT and Murray are good as well but a tier below Graves and 2 tiers or more under McCracken. Ft Campbell and Marshall County are just not very good. This is a good schedule for the Cards and one that is perfect for preparing them for a title run. Coming out of it with just 1 loss so far exceeds my expectations and makes me think the deserve to be #1 at lest for now.

I do think Pikeville and Beechwood have played good teams and are good teams , which will make for some good match ups. Do I think Mayfield is the favorite? Yes. Do I think they can be beat? Yes. Pikeville has the most impressive win but I don't know how they matchup to Mayfield if they were to play. Time will tell.

If Mayfield is going to win a title this year it will be on the back of their defense, in particular the run defense so I would think it is as favorable of a matchup as you could hope for

McCracken is very talented, several D1 players on the roster, but, ever since Haskins had to be taken off the field a few weeks ago, the teams been pretty flat.. Southaven ran all over them, but, fortunately, they couldn't stop McCracken any better than McCracken could stop them.. Graves is a big, physical team with 1 great RB and a pretty good kicking game, but, from what I've seen, didn't think they were in the Mustangs league. Marshall Co is not a good team and McCracken just seemed to go thru the motions in that one.. Not sure what there state of mind is right now, but, it's not been too good lately..

Just thought I would say this, if you call 3rd in the state with 313 yds per game limited, then I would like to see what you call really good! I do agree that they have issues though, maybe just not in the passing game.

With that being said, I do feel like teams freaking play the games of their lives when it's against Mayfield. So maybe that's why I am praising them so much. That night, they were unbelievable. So maybe I can retract my previous thought to this:

That was a huge rivalry game for sure. There is noone in 1A with the athletes or shear speed of McCracken...that is for sure. There is no Zaire Hughes in 1A that you will ahve to deal with.

 

I can't speak on behalf of Beechwood or Williamsburg because I haven't seen enough of them to speak on the subject...but what I will say is Pikeville is one fine looking team. Excellent balance, playmakers w/ very high football IQ, the line won't blow you away looking at a roster... but they are very well coached and very physical. They also have great versatility. Everyone on that team doesn't do just one thing well. Pugh is a beast running but also catches it really well. Charles is a duel threat and very accurate on short passes. Estep is one of the best overall playmakers in 1A.

 

What I do know is whoever wants to beat Mayfield better pack a lunch. The Cards aren't just going to roll over and let someone take what they feel is rightfully theirs.
