lawildcat Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Adam Jones blames kicker Mike Nugent for Bengals' tie with Panthers - SBNation.com Adam Jones didn't pull any punches when asked where the blame lays for his Cincinnati Bengals' tie with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The cornerback placed it squarely on the shoulders of kicker Mike Nugent, who missed a 36-yard field goal wide right as time expired in overtime to seal the highest-scoring tie in NFL history. "We were in a perfect position to win the game, two seconds left on the clock, we've got to win the game," Jones told NFL.com after the game. "Everybody in here gets paid to do a job and that's what everybody needs to do." It's been a tough start to 2014 for Nugent, who has now missed six of his 17 attempts. Jones stopped short of saying the team should bring in a new kicker, but didn't sound entirely opposed to the notion. "I didn't say that, but I said everybody gets paid to do a job," he said. "So perform and do your job, that's all I'm saying." Jones may want to take a look at his fellow secondary mates before he goes pointing the finger at Nugent too much. The Bengals allowed Cam Newton to move the Panthers 54 yards in the final 2:11 of regulation to set up the tying field goal and send the game into overtime. Jones himself allowed six receptions for 34 yards in the game.
75center Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Didn't know Nugent played defense. That said, they need to be looking for a kicker.
ColonelCrazy Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 He's right, and since it's the kicker, he can say that without the wheels falling off of this team. Nugent isn't solely responsible for the tie, but the Bengals would have won the game if Nugent converted an easy field goal.

Hellbird Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Defense and kicking game has to hold most of the blame, with the majority of that going to the defense.
Qryche11 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Unfortunately he is correct on this. Nugent should understand that as well. Regardless of the 500 penalties they had they had a chance to win the game and he did not perform.
Ari Gold Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 He is right period. I hate how 700 is playing it off like "He is a great guy..." "Hate to see that for a guy like Nugent...". That's weak. Pac Man is right..
malachicrunch Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I'd say he's right. I'm not saying he was right to communicate it.
LOOGY Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 36 yard field goal from the middle, every NFL kicker should make that blindfolded. Adam Jones is right.
Qryche11 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I liken Mike Nugent's job similar to a salesman's job. You Close or you HIT the BRICKS. My favorite scene from GlenGarry Glen Ross. [video=youtube_share;AO_t7GtXO6w]

If he gave up 6 receptions for 34 yards then I think he earned his pay yesterday. I think he also had a 98 yard kickoff return that set up a game tying score.
UKMustangFan Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 100% accurate. Nugent needs to go. He sucks at his job.
ggclfan Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Pacman was right about everyone doing his job but singling out Nugent in the media is weak. That stuff should be kept in the locker room. A team that committed 13 penalties for over 100 yards and let the other team hang 37 on them should not try to blame one player for the tie. Sure, Nugent should make that kick and he has had a bad year so far but just blaming him for the tie is unfair.

Generally I agree with you, and comments like that can cause a lot of turmoil...unless you're talking about the kicker.
