It is interesting to read (the beauty of BGP) everyones view of the same game.

 

I saw some calls that could have gone the other way. 32 minutes of basketball will always bring some moments that can be debated. These 3 officials, as human as all of us, try extremely hard to call an excellent game. You wont find a better trio of officials.

 

The Devil fans are upset over physical play? This team alongside Morgan are the two most physical teams in the region. When the fouls are lopsided in the Devils favor the other team just fouls more, maybe last night the Devils committed more fouls. But you cant look at total free throws and say the officials called a bad game. The few times I've pointed out a large discrepency at the free throw line I am summarily blasted here on Preps.

 

The 3 officials are great individuals who had the guts to put on the striped uniform and call the region championship along with a years full of games. Much more than any of us FANS are willing to do. No matter how the call of a game goes, most times they get very little thanks for their efforts. And tonight they have been blistered to the point of being called cheaters. These guys dont deserve that.

 

As a followup to my statement of the former Devil. UKCATSFAN says it is a cheap shot. I certainly was not taking a cheap shot. When one of the regions top players and in some circles considered the regions top defender, leaves a basketball team with 5 games left in the season and that team carries on to a region title then that is newsworthy. I only wondered if he had 2nd thoughts about the decision. Relax.

HaHA...... Congrats to Devils, I would like to know how free throws Elliott missed tonight. I don't think the striped shirts was helping Russell. Elliott lived at the line. If they shoot better there, they win.:fire: :fire:

Agree. Elliott Co was in the bonus before the end of the 1st Qtr and 1 min into the 4th Qtr. How many Elliott Co. players fouled out ????All I saw was one of the black & white stripes. At the end of the game. Throw the ball to one of the security (KSP) and ran out of the building back to Greenup Co as fast as he could get there ?????

Devils played a great 1 half. As I said this team can play if let off the leash. 2 half was ????? Don't know how many times ( 6 -8) Russell had high % shots and would pull back out and then would turn the ball over or a petty foul would be called and send Elliott back down the floor while they were in the bonus. Not taking nothing away from Ferguson but Gill should have been MVP. Great win for the Devils and RUPP ARENA here come the RED DEVILS.

The striped shirts may very well be upstanding citizens of their community that doesn't make them right all the time . I know we (refs) in the stands have a different view of things but this was an important game to both teams:confused:

Every game is filled with questionable calls and this game was no different. Calls I agreed with, calls I disagreed with. But I didnt leave the arena thinking either team got a "Raw Deal". Nor did I think it was "Poorly Officiated".

 

I do believe the trend to allow teams to "decide it on the floor" has led to much more physical play than should be allowed. Hand checks, bumps, pushing, holding has become the norm. It is a gray debate for sure, what constitutes a foul in today's game. But I believe some of the officials in the 16th, especially the top officials are fairly consistent with their calls and interpretations. I just disagree with the amount of physical grabbing and holding that is allowed to go on. But I know there are plenty of people that disagree with me, and thats OK.

I did not see the game so I can't give a first hand opinion on the officiating. I will say however, that if a certain official that will be calling games in the state tourney this week was calling it that there is a good chance the game was poorly officiated. This guy wants to make sure everyone knows that he is there. The man has to learn that he is not the show and the game is what people are there to see! That is what this man did when he officiated football and he was without a doubt the worst football official in the area. I don't think that he calls football anymore and that is good for any players, coaches and fans of any game that he would have called.

Well, to begin with, TBF gave the officials credit for having the guts to put on the striped shirt and call the game - and he pointed out that the VAST majority of people in the stands have never done that. I thought that was pretty good.

 

Second, he stated that even with calls that he disagreed with, he still felt the officials gave an honest effort, and did their best. I thought that was pretty good.

 

Third, he stated that the officials didn't deserve to be called cheaters. I thought that was pretty good.

I think I understand how hard it is to call ball games I know I couldn't. Someone has to do it . So someone did it to the best of the ability.

I thought there were some questionable calls that went both ways. Yes, if Elliott hits their free-throws the way they did their first two games of the tourny, they wouldn't have been in the shape they were in at halftime and would've probably won the game. As for Billman, I think the other refs had to bail him out a couple of times when he refused to call a foul in his own area. I also remember several trips when a Russell player was holding an Elliott's players jersey and nothing was called, but that's just officiating. They are only human. Again, If Elliott hits free throws, they are dancing in the streets of Sandy Hook!!!!

Could someone enlighten me as to why there was a song on the radio playing every hour on the hour (102.9) I guess, singing about Elliott County going to Rupp???? Or something to that effect...?

 

I am clueless about this, as I did not hear it but numerous people have asked me if I heard it...surely to goodness they didn't do the ultimate jinx did they?

It sounds like it was a poorly officiated game both ways. I wish that the quality of officials could be improved for a championship game. You just have to be consistent and you also have to step up and make some of those calls.

 

If I'm not mistaken, I think 1 if not 2 of those championship game officials was rated high enough by the KHSAA to be invited to officiate at Rupp next week. I know Bobby Hall was, and I think Billman was as well, but not for sure.
