The $10,000 deductible is at least a limit for those who can't afford lower deductibles. $10,000 is much better when facing catastrophic illness or surgery than being on the hook for 100%.

If you have had a pre-existing condition for over 20 years and put out much more than that for years because you keep getting denied coverage then the 10K doesn't look too bad. Share that, also.

So $10,000 compared to 100's of thousands doesn't make a difference. I don't care how much I am making, it does seem more doable and would give me a better avenue to plan to find a way. a-h-h-h but there seems to be this forest thing.

No...you can't see that there are many people who would be able to manage making payments on a $10K hospital bill, but not hundreds of thousands.

 

I can see very clearly. I've lived with that scenario, as have many in my family.

I would love for everyone to have affordable but effective insurance. The ACA was rushed through and not well thought out.

I did vote for the President twice. My main reasons were AHCA and what I perceived as a sincerity in bringing about transparancy. I am very pleased with the results of AHCA, while recognizing there are flaws that need to be reworked. I find my biggest disappointment in his tenure has been the transparency. But I also recognize that what I may feel is appropriate may not be. But it doesn't seem much progress had been made there. Of course, a lot of the other issues on his plate were more critical. Economically, I don't know how anyone can NOT feel we are better off now than in 2006. Envioronmentally, I believe in responsible stewardship of our resources and that required attention to the negative effects of our way of life and its conveniences. No issues with any of his policies there. Defense...well given the complexity and new way of war, I have no idea what the "approopriate" policy should be. I do believe we (the world) have been to slow to move from our traditional thinking of war, and it is costing us dearly.

 

As my overriding criteria are social issues, I am inclined to feel President Obama has been successful. I can recognize though that for those who place economics and defense as priorities his presidency has not been succesful.

 

Without successful economic and defense policy, there isn't much hope for successful long term social programs.

Exactly! Just pushed through so they could claim they passed something. It doesn't address health care costs, in fact, they're going to increase. Poorly written, poorly planed, poorly executed.

The point is if you can't afford either how does forcing someone to make a Health Insurance payment better their situation.

 

My problem with Obama care has always been based in one key element. That is its direct assault on individual freedom . I don't know how someone can say social issues are most important to them and then praise a law that restricts freedom.

There is some truth to this. Many European nations are suffering economically and are having to drastically cut back on their social programs. The problem is, so many European were so dependent on these programs that they don't know how to make it without them. One of the most difficult issue with social programs is trying to care for people but not make use of the programs habitual.
