Look. Bryan Station squeaked in to BGP top 10 at #10. Good for them. I said hardly in the post when I specifically named them. I figured that was enough credit. I openly give you PT, as I my eyes must have been skimming the fine text way too fast. My apologies.

 

I have no beef with HHS. As I also want to point out, I never said HHS was bad. I was only trying to justify someone saying Owensboro is a top team. I'm sorry if you feel offended, because I respect the program you all have. I was just pointing out that they beat these teams how they are supposed to beat them and the only question mark was the Station game and CC.

Highlands got demolished by Trinity...who got demolished by X...who BG beat.

 

Highlands barely beat Campbell Co...who is not a great team, decent but not great.

 

BG's loss against McCallie is the biggest reason though. MxPreps Freeman rankings rank McCallie 18th in the nation. BG should have won that game. That's a pretty strong trump card.

 

NOW...should Highlands beat Elder or lose by say 1-2, I take it all back and say that Highlands would be fine against BG.

 

I do still believe that BG is going through right now what Highlands went through from 2007-2012, which is a streak in which they're pretty tough to touch.

 

All said, I believe Highlands would be nothing short of a red circled game on BG's schedule if they were there. I also admit I haven't seen Highlands this year and I am not accounting for how much better some posters feel they are getting.

 

As a HHS fan, I think this is a very fair post. The Elder game (and the Christopher Columbus game Saturday) will tell us a lot about how far HHS has come this year. We HHS fans will tell you that HHS is a vastly different team than the one that beat Campbell County by 7 early but beating Christopher Columbus and beating or playing Elder very close will maybe change the minds of non-HHS fans who still think HHS is down this year...honestly, a case can be made for both sides so it will be fun to see who is right the next nine weeks (at least I hope it is nine:-))

So people who haven't seen Owensboro play can judge Owensboro and people who have seen Highlands play once can't judge Highlands? Is that correct?

 

PP92, I agree with you that HHS fans who have not seen Owensboro play have no business judging how good Owensboro is or is not. I frankly hope HHS is playing Owensboro in the state championship game in nine weeks...would be exciting to watch. I will say that people who are judging HHS solely by the CC game are making a big mistake. Actually, anyone who judges any football team by one game is making a mistake.

Actually, Cincy St X gets the label as most improved team to date...Highlands had their way with them at their place in a scrimmage the week after the T scrimmage and St X has done nothing but play a tough GCL schedule and beat Elder at the Pit last weekend.

 

See, people that want to judge Highlands schedule and their ability to improve each week, is welllllll, just plain ignorant.

 

Heck, Highlands may run the table and finish 15-0 and get a top 25 National ranking and we will still be talking about their schedule and that 4A is weak and not worthy of a silly 4A #1 ranking...Just sayin

I want to remind everyone since people keep bringing up the Trinity "Scrimmage" and how bad we got beat. That the following week the birds went and beat St.x of ohio. And I'm pretty sure X just beat elder this past week. Highlands offense and defense have gotten much better as the season has gone on and I think they can hang with most teams in the country.

Covington Catholic has played by far the toughest schedule to date. The three teams that have beaten CCH are all better than every team on Owensboro's schedule except Bowling Green. Highlands has also played a tougher schedule than Owensboro. In fact, there are a couple other teams - North Hopkins and Lexington Catholic- that have also played a tougher schedule than Owensboro. So ranking Owensboro #1 strictly by schedule doesn't work.

I saw Highlands play Campbell County... And that's all I needed to see.

 

Were you there from the opening kickoff? Did you see the part where Highlands was winning 28-0 halfway through the second quarter? Yes, the Birds started making mistakes and let a really good Campbell County team back in the game. If those two played again next week, what would happen?

Agreed. HHS resume can be picked apart by those who have not seen them play a few times. That is fair. The CC and CCH results from last week also can fairly cast doubt on how good HHS really is. Looking forward to the final few weeks as in addition to the Elder and FL games we have to go to Warren Central. It's going to be a fun finish. I believe HHS will finish strong as these guys are really showing us something.

So John Hardin sucks this year, Paducah Tighlman was controlled throughout by Madisonville. Madisonville beat Henderson Co. 49-0 @ Henderson Co. and CovCath was playing Henderson at home and won 49-28 but trailed at half. BG would smoke all of those teams. I think Madisonville and Warren Central would both be tough games for Bryan Station, who is the best team HHS has played. Highlands definitely has the tougher schedule all season, but thus far Owensboro seems to have a harder schedule.

 

And to your last point, others may have played a tougher schedule, it's not the point of just playing a tougher schedule, but winning or acquiting yourself very well. LexCath got smashed by BG, Owensboro also lost but put up 34 points and was leading throughout. CovCath was dominated all game by Beechwood.

John Hardin - can't argue here. Perennial good team with having a tough year. 5 losses, but 3 to pretty good teams.

PT - HHS, McCracken, Mayfield, Madisonville North Hopkins, and an Indiana team.

Cov Cath - HHS, Moeller OH, Beechwood.

Harrison - Can't argue here other than we have to play them because they are on our district.

 

So looking at this a little different, HHS opponents are not losing to slouches. The are losing, but to some pretty solid teams that several team would be losing to as well. 16 of the 25 of the losses are to strong teams.
