That was unacceptable and could have seriously hurt the kid over nothing. But, hey, the coach got to show everybody how tough he is . I agree with Clyde. Watching the video, Schlegle already had a hold of the guy. That was all that was needed, the body slam although a crowd pleaser was a bit excessive. If he would have been seriously injured such as broken neck, then what?

We assume that the kid falls in the 99% of drunken idiots doing this but he ends up being one of the 1% who are radical and want to harm someone or himself, and then people will question why someone didn't step in and stop him even with force. We don't live in a society or world where people can assume innocent intent anymore. We don't know when to consider someone dangerous or not in situations that may have been very innocent appearing in the past. This I can hear people now... "There were 100 people capable of stopping this guy before he caused any damage and they didn't..."

October 1, 201411 yr We assume that because he showed no threat. No one ever does. They get grabbed and taken off the field. Many on here are of the mind that "well it's on him for being on the field NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS!" That's crap. Our society is built on appropriate responses. When is the last time someone ran onto a field of play and attacked someone? How many times in the last 10 years? What is appropriate? Kid in Philly got tazed for running around and dodging authority. Everyone thought it was hilarious. Fans take this really lightly and that part scares me bc all it takes is that one time and something tragic is going to happen to an official, coach, or player. It will be this nonthreatening running crap and the fan will have a weapon. There needs to be a better job done along the walls behind the bench area.
October 1, 201411 yr I'm seeing parallels to the Kevin Ward/Tony Stewart situation. Ward got out of his car and walked into the middle of the track. This other kid got out of his seat and walked (ran) onto the field. Does that give Tony Stewart (or any other driver) cart blanche to gas it and run over him? No. Same way that security shooting the kid on the field would be wrong. However, what if Stewart drove around Ward, gassed it to get away, and in the process threw a rock or clump of dirt that hits Ward in the throat and kills him? Was it intentional? Heck no. Same way I'd view this situation here. Schlegal wasn't out to kill the kid. Stop him? Absolutely. Hurt him? Eh, maybe...but, I doubt in any serious form or fashion. But, ultimately the majority of the blame has to fall on the one that instigated the situation in the first place. If he's not there...then absolutely nothing happens to him.

Do it once and I bet we never see another "jokester" jump the fence. You can't gauge intent, and the good of the safety of those playing, coaching, and in attendance supersedes everything else. I'm not playing with these clowns. If I jump a fence and trespass, anything can happen. Might get shot. Might get attacked by dogs. Might catch a bat to the back of the head. Regardless, I could have avoided it by not going where I don't belong.

You are taking it to the hypothetical extreme, so I'm responding in kind. I'm okay with anything that takes them down quickly and deters others from trying the same. 99% of the time may be a 'prank', and I'm not willing to find out in that other 1%. The safety of those playing and in attendance is my foremost concern. Stay in the stands and we are all good.

FWIW being Tazed is a lot less dangerous than what the coach did. In Fact Tazing someone that is misbehaving is one of the nicest things you can do to them :banana:
