But since CCH last won a state championship, I hear where CCH had some lean years, outside of those couple of lean years how was the talent?

 

I will say this, I was very surprised at the outcome of the game, I really thought it would be a good game, with Highlands winning, but that CCH would give Highlands a run for their money in the playoffs.

 

Since I wasn't there I can't comment on the intensity of the players, but within the past 12 hours I have heard more than just one or two people complain that the intensity wasn't there.

I will also say this, it's tiring when people say things like "most schools would give this or that to have a program like such and such school". Well the other schools aren't these programs for a reason, and once you reach a certain level you are expected to compete. I'm sorry but being a nice person doesn't cut it, if it did, as was mentioned, Brossart may still be at CCH.

 

When. You get to to the level of a Highlands, CCH, NewCath or Beechwood, you are expected to complete.

If a CovCath coach or anyone coach in the area has to give a Knute Rockne type speech to get his team fired up to play Highlands, well something is wrong there. Highlands owns CovCath and it doesnt seem like it is going to change anytime soon. This has to be very demoralizing for the Covcath players and coaches. Knowing they would have to travel back to Ft. Thomas in the playoffs for another shot at the Birds. I still think they will drill Beechwood but they better not come out flat. Typical down year for Highlands:lol2::lol2:

The bigger question and more importantly the reason this gap is not closing is because of what Dale did to raise the bar so quickly

 

I was talking to JOAT at Thurs pregame and he hit the nail on the head when he said "what changed at Highlands to make CovCath so much better than Highlands this yr?

 

I sorta relate this whole rivalry and current situation to a track meet...When CovCath fell down a few yrs back, Dale did not play nice and took off a full lap ahead of CovCath even before the gun had sounded and the problem that CovCath is facing right now is it is only a two lap race. Now, if people think Wirth and CovCath is going to catch him in one short yr then you are just being silly?

 

Heck, to close the gap we may be talking still maybe 3-5 yrs and that is if BW bombs out.

 

To some, people may say Dale left BW with a empty cuppoard, but the fact of the matter is he left him in charge of a great program that is on an incredible run with just one hiccup along the way in the last 7 yrs and the lead still looks like it is one lap and BW is in charge...:thumb:

Shame on you for equating high school athletics to college athletics. I'd kill to have a son coached by Wirth. Wirth is young, passionate, endearing, and has the 2nd best winning % in school history. Aid in finding solutions and resolutions and stop trolling on social media. If you don't like it send your son to Villa Madonna where they play Cov Latin every year. Bottom line is this: there is no rivalry between the Birds and CCH. A rivalry requires winning. Dave Wirth is a winner. System kinks? Yes. Lack of passion? Check. Boring play book? Possibly. All coachable and correctable things. Gross topic. I'm sure these are the same dads that gave a trophy to every kid in soccer or pee wee baseball even though they lost 33-1. Don't blame the coach: it's you that enabled your son. Coach Wirth didn't have 3 turnovers. He put in a game plan that was squashed and not thoroughly executed.

Clyde, the "momentum" CCH had was a mirage created by their fans who equated beating a few bad to mediocre teams coupled with HHS having a couple of close calls early as meaning this was THE YEAR for Covington Catholic.

 

What a difference 24 hours makes...we've gone from this being "the year" to now "let's fire the coach"...

I think HHS has Wirth beat mentally before the Colonels ever step on the field.

I'm not sure if you were referring to me, since you followed mine, but I'm 100% not suggesting he should get whacked.

 

I do think HHS is in his head, and the stuff last night to make it different back-fired. They looked unprepared, tight, and didn't play nearly to their capabilities. I'm certain they'll blow the doors off upcoming opponents, then people will believe the playoff game will be different...then it won't.

 

I think the Basketball team winning state has created a lot of pressure on Dave, probably 90% of which is self-inflicted.

If the above post is correct, Why was Dave Brossart fired from CCH? I wish Dave wirth nothing but the best but sometimes in life a change is needed and if he doesn't get the monkey of beating HHS off is back, it might be that time. As a CCH alumnus, 10-3 records are great. The basically beat up everyone els in NKY. But at some point we have to beat highlands. I understand DW is not out there taking the snaps and throwing the ball. But he is the leader of the young men on the football team and he has to be held accountable, good and bad. As people of the cov cath family, we have to ask ourselves what's good enough. 10-3 every year and being 0-9 vs highlands in 6 Years. I don't know what the answer is .

I will say this, if records were reversed I would think a change in Fort Thomas would be made. Any chance Lickert would be offered that job? If yes would he take it?
