Bluesport Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I'm sorry but what I saw tonight was embarrassing to witness for many of my former Colonel teammates and myself. I'm sorry we brought our future Colonel sons to see that. How can a team come out so uninspired in the 2nd Half when you are only down 2 scores? They came out looking like at halftime they must have been planning out the rest of their weekend. Didn't exactly get a Knute Rockne speech. They showed no aggression, the pace was so slow, and there were countless blunders with players who weren't sure if they should be on the field on a play. That's on the coach when you're working with 16-18 year olds. They ran the same play so many times that I lost count. Ridiculous for a team that had 2 weeks to prepare. He has had 6 years to beat his rival and hasn't yet. It's not so much the losses, but how embarrassing they have been in many of the games. They have talent every year. Sure people are going to say they beat up the rest of NKY, just can't win this one game but really that's all the Alumni care about. Again, it's about how they just show up looking unprepared with a vanilla gameplan and no discipline. I will be interested to see how "inspired" this team comes out next week against Beechwood.
Lawnboy13 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Didn't take long after the game for this topic to surface.
G1 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I think he's doing a good job. Covcath is better now than what he inherited. If you remember, Highlands was putting up 50 in a half against them. There were years when Highlands was 100 pts better if there wasn't a running clock. Covcath is now competitive under Wirth. I think he has the program on the right track. They won a jv game over Highlands last week.

These classes should be able to at least "compete" with the Birds. The JV win has nothing to do with Wirth- it's the Sophomore class that is really good.
G1 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 He bought white game pants for the program. They looked much better than those nasty blue ones they've worn my entire life.
Sandman Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Not going to really weigh in on this one other than to say, I said years ago Highlands has built a better mousetrap. CovCath has the resources to match the Birds, but you can't do so by continually charging the windmill the same way. (And that has nothing to do with game night.)
G1 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Covington Catholic over the last few years has tried to be Highlands.(spread, wrist bands, full platoon, speed). They've yet to perfect the system though. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Something like that.
Voice of Reason Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Coaches get second guessed every game. I get that. But IMO it is ridiculous to even suggest Wirth should step down.
lawildcat Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 If every coach who couldn't beat Highlands had to step down, you'd have an awful lot of coaches out of work.
katbird Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 The whole thing with the count down clock and the chairs in the coaches office with H's on them crack me up! I think HHS has Wirth beat mentally before the Colonels ever step on the field. Keep doing what you have been doing because it has been working great..:thumb::idunno:

rjs4470 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 0-9 vs highlands isn't competitive. Dave wirth has been given 6 years. He can't beat a good time. There aren't many teams that HAVE beaten HHS over the last 6 years. Many of those 9 losses haven't been real competitive. That's more on the gap in talent than on coaching. If most of those games were close losses, then maybe you could point the finger.
BigBlue05 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 0-9 vs highlands isn't competitive. Dave wirth has been given 6 years. He can't beat a good time. Not sure he needs to step down....also only a handful of teams in the state can play or beat HHS or Moeller.....so let's see how they play next week against Beechy Tech before we fire the guy. I hate to say this CCH fans Highlands will be a better team in the playoffs if they meet again.

G1 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Without commenting on your post CCH has platooned for 10+ years with very few exceptions. I knew they had during the Wirth era. There was a period of time I lived out of state and didn't see many games. I think Wirth has improved the program myself.
