September 16, 201412 yr If you know someone is bad for another person, or there is a lot of stuff against the person, and you alert or warn someone to protect them, is that bearing false witness or judging? Example: let's say you know that a guy is going to treat a girl like trash and just use her, as he has done if many times before, is telling her of what you believe to he true about him bearing false witness or judging? Or, let's say a possible future employer of a fiend has a lot of baggage, and you inform you friend is that bearing false witness of judging? I am asking about if you truly believe what you are saying is true, or you are truly looking out for someone and you feel the need to inform them, in any conversation with the person you inform, you fell them to loo into it and not just take your word for it? Is there any Bible verses to back this up?

If one's knowledge is secondhand, I believe it is better to hold off. I have seen too many times where second-hand information is bogus or twisted and that meets the definition of bearing false witness to me.
September 16, 201412 yr I think "judging" in biblical terms is the most overused and misunderstood term or passage in the Bible. Judging in the biblical sense is meant to mean one person determining if someone else is worthy of salvation while holding that ones self (the one doing the judging) IS worthy of salvation over the one being judged. When, in truth, NONE of us are worthy and could never make ourselves worthy, only by Jesus' grace are we saved and covered by his atoning blood. The truth is, we have to form opinions on people ALL the time for our own and sometimes others well being and safety. If you have a teenage daughter at home and you KNOW there is a bad kid they are hanging with who does and deals drugs, is into a bad scene and just isn't a good person for your kid to be around, are you going to say "oh well the Bible says I can't judge so I guess I have to let little Suzie hang around with her". As a parent, if you did that then you would just be very dumb. Heck no...you would tell Suzie her friend is on a bad path, pray for her...but you can't hang around with her because she is going to get you and trouble and possible get you hurt. You can be her friend, but she can't be the kind of friend you hang out with. If/when Suzie comes around and starts making better choices, then and only then can we look at you maybe spending some time with her. One forms (or should) opinions about others like that when finding a mate...choosing to hire someone...finding a neighborhood in which to live, the list goes on.

If one's knowledge is secondhand, I believe it is better to hold off. I have seen too many times where second-hand information is bogus or twisted and that meets the definition of bearing false witness to me. I agree with this. On the first paragraph--I think age of the "perp" is a large factor. If they are high school/college/even young adult----I would keep that in consideration. I have seen people do really stupid stuff when younger, then turn out to be alright. I always like to keep an open mind with the younger folks. It's amazing what a few "real life" experiences will do to them, when they are out in the real world with their backs against the wall and no parental buffers.
September 16, 201412 yr Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. My interpretation would be that if you, in your heart, believe the information you are providing to a friend, co-worker, etc. to be truthful, then you would not be bearing false witness. There are several scriptures that seem to describe "bearing false witness" as lying or deceiving. See example above. Therefore, if your intent is not to deceive or lie, then it doesn't appear that you would be bearing false witness. JMO.....
September 16, 201412 yr I tend to be of the belief that people should form their own opinions of others.
September 16, 201412 yr Some good advice I received from his aunt upon divorcing my ex-husband. She said don't ever talk bad about your ex in front of your kids or tell stories about him. Someday, your kids will figure it out all on their own. They did, too!

I think sometimes the phrase "bearing witness" is where the key to interpretation begins. It is a legal term for court. In other words, are you ready to place yourself on the line for what you are saying? Have you done everything you know to find the truth before presenting something as factual truth? If not, and in fact what you've done is spread falsehood, you are guilty then of "bearing false witness." That means you had better be very certain and will lay your life, your credibility, your name on the line for what you are testifying is true. :thumb:
September 16, 201412 yr I tend to be of the belief that people should form their own opinions of others. Parenting isn't as cut and dried as that. You may change your approach when you have your own crew.
September 16, 201412 yr Proverbs 6:20-23 20Observe, my son, your father’s command, and do not reject your mother’s teaching; 21Keep them fastened over your heart always, tie them around your neck. 22When you lie down they will watch over you, when you wake, they will share your concerns; wherever you turn, they will guide you. 23For the command is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and a way to life are the reproofs that discipline Proverbs 19:20 20Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may eventually become wise.
September 16, 201412 yr Author I decided to go on my pilgrimage this summer with the least expensive group, but the group has so much controversy surrounding then, a lot not proven with some others being false. But the leader of this group is so out of it, and most of what he talks about always comes back to be about him. I have taken a bit of psychology with my executive protection classes and right away my mind was saying sociopath, the second day there I spoke to a lady in our group who was a psychologist and she said that she came to the same conclusion. I won't go into detail on some of what he said, at least in this post. Now, all but one visionary avoids him like the plague. There is one who associates with him, and it deals with their culture that if someone helps you out, you are at their service the rest of your life. This visionary had a brother about 20 years ago who was very sick and needed surgery. The leader of this group paid for everything for the family, and now years later the visionary is still associating with him due to their culture. The other visionaries advise people to stay clear of this guy, and not get swindled into his scheme. The local parish priest of the visionaries say I stay clear of the guy. The local Franciscans say to stay clear of this guy. The long time villagers say to stay clear of this guy. The website of the area with all of the information on the pilgrimage says to stay away from this guy. The pilgrimage area internet TV station, that has a huge following, says to stay away from this guy. The online publication for that area says to stay away from this guy. All of the above is fact. And there is more that may be looked at as rumors. Some may not be true but others may. But there are some people that make excuses for everything that is against this guy. I could see one, maybe a few things as being explainable, but this guy has stuff conning at him from all directions, and people blindly defend him. A lady from our group, emailed the entire group of what she heard, and it is all facts, but then people staters attacking her. In her email, she even stated "do not take my word for it, look into it yourselves". The lady, who is a very nice RN, was simply trying to protect the people in our group and was not trying to start garbage, she truly believes in her heart what she said it truthful, and I agree as most of what she said was fact. She was simply looking out for her brothers and sisters. Is this ok? Or is it spreading rumors, bearing gals witness, and/or making judgement on this guy? And is the any Bible verses that say warning people of possible trouble is ok? As I can't find any.
September 16, 201412 yr Author This guy wrote a book that basically calls for a second American revolution, yet he is speaking from the platform of his religious group.
