Tough to make out, but this is Bill Roller sporting the "Angry Bird" his senior year which would have been the 70-71 state championship season.

Old School. I wish they would go back to the "Mean Bird" decal. Very Iconic for Highlands Football!

 

That's pretty awesome. I've gotta say...I prefer that to the 'H', although I've always liked the look of the 'H' helmets as well.

I remember Bill (Mr Roller) came into the locker room our last game against the Camels in 80 at halftime unannounced. Even though we were 9 and 1 at the time, we didn't have anything to play for due to the lovely sub district arrangement but a little pride. I think we were up 7-0 or something at halftime. He lit us up for the whole break. The coaches stayed in the office and stayed out of the way. I think each and everyone of us were afraid that if we didn't put up some points he would be waiting outside the door for us. The coaches came out of the office and said nothing and led us back out. We put up 28 in the second half and recorded our seventh goose egg of the season.

Just one of the reasons why this tradition of excellence lives on.

Please notice there is nobody else around Bill in the picture, friend or foe, even though this was taken during a game. You may ask, why?. That's simple, they were afraid, friend or foe, he might rip out someone's heart and eat it. :sssh:
