Why would playing Trinity be best for BG?

 

Obviously Coach Wallace felt it wasn't best and he is the one person in the most informed position to make that call.

 

Well playing Trinity would prepare BG for whatever they would encounter in the playoffs on the way to a state championship. Playing Trinity would be exciting for the BG players and fans. Playing Trinity would be financially a good night. So those would be reasons to play.......what reasons would there be to not play?

Nobody going to beat BG for some time imo...and I dont see McCallie beating them. Good luck to BG:thumb:

 

BG is on one of those special runs and knows how to win the big games, there is a difference between trying to win late and knowing how to win late and nobody is doing it better than BG at the moment.

...and why have I noticed that Trinity's schedule is considerably lighter for next year? Have they, I don't know, realized you can only play so many big games without getting beat up? Trinity calls others ugly without ever looking in the mirror.

I am extremely impressed with what BGHS has done.....and love how they have things rolling. Their fans are top notch, the school is great, the kids are respectful....they are everything great about KY HS football.....but one thing....and that's the 50 game win streak.......no way, no how, do I want them to get that record. If they do? I'm all in, I support them in every way....but until it says 51 games in a row, I have to go against, and I hope some of you would understand.

This is where I am as well. I want our streak to stand, but if BG beats it they have definitely earned it.

The Trinity schedule is being hurt by the KHSAA's decision to bust up the Super District. We know have 3 poor teams and one decent team in the district next season. St Xavier historically does not travel (bring as many fans) as well as Trinity (ask the folks in Cincy). You'll have to ask your athletic director for the true $$$ figures comparing Trinity and St. Xavier. Ask the Chili Supper folks. Trinity is undefeated versus St Xavier and will be heavily favored this season in the same time frame the Purples defeated the Tigers 4 times. Wallace knew what he was doing when he bailed on the Trinity series.

The Rocks would likely have broken the streak of the Purples in 2011 and/or 2012...they would have gotten pummeled in 2013. But by the same token, the 1988-1991 Rocks would have gotten their streak broken had they played Moller or Cathedral or Indy Warren Central during their run. It's a waste of time to talk about who played who as that it's all theoretical chest thumping. You'd be better served to debate the strength of opponents during each respective streak. But I don't seem to see too many T people looking to do that.

Bowling Green is the current Kentucky High School Football Flagship. Most want people to know how good Kentucky High School Football is.

A 50-game streak is a great accomplishment. I hope another Kentucky team gets there, and beats a Tennessee team in the process.

 

But it doesn't crack the MaxPreps top 25 (nationwide). De La Salle (CA) won over 150 straight games.

Totally disagree...offenses were WAY behind where they are now in terms of diversity. Platooning was a rarity even at your top schools. Coach availability for education was about one-hundredth of what it is now. Player development was not even close to what it is now in terms of off season programs.

 

Yes, I agree that your very top teams from that era would be just fine in today's game, but I 100% disagree that lower 3/4 of the state was as good as it is now. Trinity and Highlands are in themselves the perfect example of this. They have exploded in the last 10-15 years in ways that is far beond any such period in their previous and excellent histories.
