I see nothing wrong with anything he said.

How does portraying himself as a racist owner enhance the value of the team? Why would he not just announce that he wanted to sell the team? The points that he made in the email message makes the franchise sound like a "fixer upper."

What did he say in the message that was racist to black people that a white person like me is missing?

BC a forced sale becomes an auction sale and now you are have more than one buyer bidding. It's a mentality thing. People will pay more to win the bid than what they really would have if it was a party-to-party negotiation.

He could have probably expressed his thought/ideas a little better...some of it just sounds and reads very oddly...but to me there isn't anything here justifying selling a team or any huge backlash.

I have read an dlooked, what was said about him. All I saw was something about free agency and Miami Heat.

Post a link. No journalists on twitter seem to be able to find out what was said in the report. You can help them out.

I aint that good.

How can you all read that memo and not think it's racist?! :idunno:

Just a testament to how racism is such a fabric in our society that people don't know it when they see it anymore. That or folks are trying to protect the code. I've pretty much lost all hope in our society and am just going to dedicate myself to preserving relationships with people I care about. It's just not worth the trouble anymore to strive for a better society. Society is doomed.

Maybe I see it different, IDK.

But if he was stereotyping a group, that happens all the time in business.

The NBA is as big a business as any. Its all about tickets and money.

It seems to me he is trying to get the rich white middle class to come to games and buy merchandise.

He even said

On fan sites i would read comments about how dangerous it is around philips yet in our 9 years, i don't know of a mugging or even a pick pocket incident. This was just racist garbage.

He never agreed with teh bolded.

But maybe I dont see it that way because Im whte and maybe if a black owner said stuff like why arent blacks coming to the game and the kiss camis too white etc, maybe it would be different.

But its still economics and business, which is what the NBA is.

Reports now seem to indicate that the email was around 2-3 years old, and that there's been a power struggle at the top of the Hawks organization for awhile. Something else was reported and there were over 24,000 documents that were audited/reviewed by an outside agency. This email was one of them and is being used as leverage in whatever the real struggle going on now is. Think about it: if you were offended by something like this in your workplace, would you sit on it for two to three years before reporting it?

The thing that bothers me with this is the other side feigning outrage when it was probably something of common discourse between the parties, otherwise I don't really see the owner being comfortable enough to send that. Again, some of the people who are against the guy who made the remarks and are publicly are on their soapboxes probably had access to these for years and didn't feel compelled to do anything about it until it came up as leverage as against him in a disagreement. Now for them to be saying they were "shocked", "appalled", "there's no place in the NBA for this" and all of that may be true, but it's going to be met with a bit of skepticism from me.

What I'd like to make clear: I'm not addressing what was said in the email specifically, I'm not taking the owner's side and I'm not trying to bury him either. What I'm trying to point out is that this is something that went unnoticed in their organization for 2 years and now that it's went public, there are a lot of people who are probably as, if not more, guilty than he who are raising hell about it. For me, that's just as much of a problem.

That's not how sports franchises or any other large businesses are sold. The message that was made public does not project the kind of image that you want potential buyers to have of a company that you hope to sell. There will be multiple parties interested in buying the Hawks but there is nothing to be gained by the franchise owners having the NBA force a sale.
