I left that path earlier than most though to enter private industry. It was a long road, but I like what I do now for the next few years until retirement. Then I will work on my farm!!

Funny, I applied to Auburn's school of veterinary medicine and was accepted when I chose the route I did. It really was a tough decision. I liked the thought of working with large animals, but the idea of working on a bunch of cats and lap dogs just lost it's appeal once I pondered it. Lol.

Teacher, fire fighter while real estate investing, and lawyer came to mind on the this subject. However, a lunch cart provider downtown...watching the immediate gratification of producing a quality food product has teeth and encouraging people with good food, music, and an encouraging word feeds the soul. "A rolling stone gathers no moss!"

 

I'd have theme days and music to compliment the food. And it would all be scratch cooking, no processed food!!!

Once Mrs. Colonels_Wear_Blue finishes up med school, the plan is for me to go ahead and switch to another profession: history teacher. Sounds like there are a few of you who would like to join me?

I will also add broadcasting, and then coaching. I'd LOVE to be on radio or TV.

If things were in a perfect world I think I could be happy in sports operations for any level college or above. I have had some fantastic work with teams across KY and there looks to be more in the future. But not enough to make the jump full time. Maybe soon.....

And this is a serious question. So, let's leave male prostitute, pimp, Victoria Secret model, professional baseball player and all of the other silly junk out of this one. Seriously, if you were able to switch to another profession, one that you could do physically and make similar or more money.

I don't know if it'd be considered a real switch if I wind up getting a job in tax law, but maybe an accountant.

 

If I wanted to go with something way different, then I'd say computer programming or web design.

Not me. Way too much work involved.

 

The restaurant/bar business in general is a lot of work, bad hours, and involves a lot of job hopping. If you are good in a particular aspect of the trade, it's a great way to travel. Flip side, don't get to comfortable in one place.

 

Even the exec. chefs I've known at highly acclaimed places, deal with a lot of the above pitfalls. Of course, they get paid plenty, but every gig starts the clock to the next gig. Tough business.

 

I know it is brutal hours but I don't mind that if I am doing something I like. I would love to design dishes, set menus, and cook enjoyable dishes people like. I would need lots of training, like any vocation, but it is something I would like to have tried.

Our daughter (our middle child) and her husband are both veterinarians, so I can live vicariously through them. She chose the cats and dogs after working a couple of years in the equine industry. The business end of the equine can be really tough to take at times. His passion is bovine.

 

You are always welcome on the farm. Mainly I just hike on it....but I have equine plans.

If money weren't an issue, I'd love to be involved in coaching at some level. Not saying I'd like to be a head coach, but I wouldn't mind working with film, trying to gather and aggregate useful data, stuff like that.

I will also say, that even though I can never imagine myself doing anything other than what I do, IF it were possible, I'd love, love, love to become a lawyer...defense attorney in particular.
