from what we were told they will be eligible their freshmen season

The initial reports said 16/17 year.

NewCath Press Release

Drew McDonald, a senior and four year varsity starter for the boys' Newport Central Catholic Basketball Team, verbally committed to play basketball at Northern Kentucky University. Additionally, he has the opportunity to play golf at NKU and will continue to decide if he wants to play two collegiate sports.

Career highlights for Drew include:

Basketball

Named to Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches - All Region Team - three consecutive years

Named to Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference - All Region Team - three consecutive years

Led Team to KHSAA - All A State Championship - two consecutive years

Named Louisville Courier Journal - All State Team - junior year

Joined the 1000 Point Club - scoring 1000 points junior year

Golf

Named to Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference - All Region Team - three consecutive years

Qualified for KHSAA State Tournament as a freshman and junior

Qualified for All A State as a freshman and sophomore

Named Conference Player of the Year as 8th grader, freshman, and junior

Academically

Drew is ranked 8th in his class, maintains honor roll status and has consistently achieved KHSAA - Academic All State "First Team" Honor Award.

Drew is the son of Jeff and Christie McDonald of Cold Spring, Kentucky.

I didn't remember him playing in the 8th grade but didn't follow NCC that close.

Great accomplishment going D1 and hope he has a fantastic career at NKU.

Glad to hear he is going to NKU. Good luck on your senior season.

Congrats to Drew and his family!!

The first year that NKU entered the Atlantic Sun Conference was during the 12-13 season. Unless something has change from the original agreement, NKU was put on probation for 4 years.....thus, making them eligible for post season tournaments in 16-17. However, for the upcoming 14-15 and 15-16 seasons if a sport(such as golf), has individual participants for the post season tournament and the player finishes in the top 3, he/she can advance to the next level of the NCAA tournament.

you were told wrong.

He didn't. This will be his 4th year.

I may be wrong, but think he played golf as an 8th grader.

Drew in fact DID play golf as an 8th grader for NewCath.

The 4 years counts this year. I assume he will start.......

Kind of makes you feel old if you remember Mom playing at NKU.
She was the best all-around female athlete I've ever seen. All-state in hoops, softball & volleyball (Turned ND down for this.). Saw her backhand a ground ball in the hole at SS & throw the runner out from her knees.

If I am not mistaken she was selected the KY. female athelete of the year by USA Today her senior year.

Congrats to Drew and his family. I love his diversity on the court and his past summer success with the Travelers shows he can hang with the top D-1 talent out there. Best of luck and Go Norse!,

As did I. Difference being, he was good enough to do so ;)
