All sports?

 

My understanding is that in games with pads, games are cancelled if over 100 on the field. Games with no pads (ie: soccer) it is 104. I don't know what it was down there but I don't think it was 100 yet. Getting there, but not yet. I heard it was a combination of the heat and Boone wanting to call off the dogs as they had some kids dinged up and puking. Either way, it's unfortunate as the JV kids didn't get a chance to play today and the JV game against Boone Co @ Boone on Monday was canceled late last week by Boone as they had their field double booked with soccer.

Yes. The issue with baseball, softball and football are they all wear some sort of protective devices (catchers). Once it hits 100 all pads and helmets must come off so realistically according to the khsaa all sports mentioned above should stop playing at 100 degrees heat index. For all other sports a HI of 105 will stop play immediately.

Finally got to meet the "RU", sorry Clyde I wasn't walking across to meet you after half. Funny though...you really are caucasian.

 

Score wasn't an indicator of how close this should have been. Lamb was solid in the 1st quarter and threw good balls. Boone moved the ball well until dropped passes and turnovers stopped drives. Credit cchs defense for locking down their red zone defense. The punt return fumble recovery and INT thrown directly to Zumdick were key plays.

 

The blue colonels don't make many mistakes and capitalized on Boones. Congrats to the colonels on the W. Curious though, was the game called do to heat index or did Boone say "uncle?" I came home and the temp was 82 at CVG. Thought the reason for the push back time were concerns about heat?

 

It may have been 82 at CVG but go stand on the turf not grass for about 5 minutes with the sun beating down on you it definitely is not 82.

I'm excited about this CCH team. Their offense is one of the fastest I recall with all those track guys on the outside and Wagner running the show. Defense will get better.

 

I'm going to disagree with Guru from the game thread post when he gave his thoughts about last years team being better.

 

I think this years defensive backfield is not as good- but that's no slap in the face. I do believe with Zumdick and Alex Wagner back there as a steadying influence, that they can get there. The D-Line returns everyone- two of the three LB's are new to the starting lineup, but an athletic group.

 

Offensively this is a fast group. The WR corp is overall quicker than last years group. No one as big as Braun but as he missed most of the year some of these same kids got to develop into what we see today. Wagner is slippery quick and- as proven today- has a very nice arm. I'm confident that by the end of the year, Wagner will be in the conversation as one of the top 2-3 QB's in N Ky. Had to have over 200 yards passing to go along with his 4 TD's by halftime. When Dressman gets back in full swing, it obviously just adds to the QB dynamic. The RB Darlington gets solid north and south yards- tough blocker in pass Pro and good outlet on screen plays. Last but not least, I think this O-Line, anchored by Sam Murrer, is going to be a very good group- IF they can stay healthy all year. There were times today when Wagner went back to pass that you couldn't have drawn more ideal pocket protection.

 

The cherry on top is the kicking game and that we have a steady place kicker in Hornsby. I know he missed a PAT today after an illegal procedure pushed them back- but it is worlds better than last year. Foertsch returns as one of the top punters in N Ky.

 

So I do think this years team is better- but it doesn't matter till we win District and move on in State.

 

Couple last thoughts on this game.

 

- I thought Boone looked good in the 1st quarter. They drove the ball with a nice mix of run vs pass and found receivers open in the middle of the field. As someone alluded to earlier, I'm not sure why they got away from that.

- Defensively, they stifled CCH the first two series. It was the muffed punt return that started the tidal wave.

- I thought the officiating crew was mediocre at best. The roughing the passer call which resulted in taking away a nice interception by Summe, was NOT roughing the passer. The defender was a 1/2 step away and in mid lunge as the QB threw it- pretty obvious. The celebration penalty in the end zone after a CCH TD was silly- didn't see anything excessive. Cov Cath does need to clean up a few things in the illegal procedure side of things.

I always like the looks of Boone County's uniforms.

Bluedad and I agree on the JV thing. They should have made the second half the JV game, especially since the actual JV game was canceled.

 

On the heat, I am shocked the heat index rule was used to end the game and that is all I will say about that.

 

On Boone, much improved over last year, keep on doing what you are doing and good things will happen no question about it.

 

On CCH, I stick with they are not as good as last year. I like how they are coached, I like their fundamentals, and the QB is tough. On the negative, they are a little too finesse and need to improve a lot if they are going to beat Highlands.

 

And it was great to meet up with everyone!

Best part of the game, watching it with Lawnboy, Nkuclubaseball, oldbird, Clyde, guru, content1 and finally meeting Newarkcatholicfan.
