This Video Is Why the People In Ferguson Don't Care What the Police Report Says

Featured Replies

Video of the chief's presser. He simulated the victim raising his hand to stab the officers.

See my previous post. If that is what this entire thread is based on, not to mention the HuffPo article, it's much ado about nothing. When he made that gesture he was stating the suspect had the knife in an overhand grip. Again, how would you demonstrate an overhand grip. He did not say the knife was up or that he was stabbing, he was showing an overhand grip.

I don't think it is very clear to you. You keep trying to explain why he was shot. Irrelevant to the thread. You defend the police (correctly) - irrelevant to the thread. You point out that because there are different police departments involved that the Ferguson people who think there is a black/white issue won't link the two. Incorrect. You claim I or others am trying to "justify" it. Not true.

So , I don't think you do get it. OR you're being obstinate.

Disagree all day.

As long as you attempt to establish a connection between two unrelated incidents, then I will continue to disagree. The two incidents are not related and no rational human being would link the two incidents. People with an agenda will certainly try to show a pattern where none exists.
That's for the original thread. I created this one specifically to deal with what I believe many in Ferguson are thinking.

Nothing about the typo?

No, we are not missing the point. Two different victims, two different shooters, and two different police departments. Neither case can be used to justify or condemn what happened in the other. If the point is that the people who are trying to link the two cases to justify the looting, rioting, and rush to judgment by Gov. Nixon, President Obama, Eric Holder, or that the protesters in Ferguson are motivated by racial prejudice, then consider me convinced - but it seems like an effort to excuse the ongoing effort to deny Wilson justice.

40 FBI agents dispatched to investigate a shooting where ample evidence seems to exist to establish exactly what happened? Really, what rational human being could possibly believe that what is going on in Ferguson is a reasonable attempt to see that justice is done?

Yep, you're missing the only point that was being made.

Nope. Didn't miss the point at all. I look at it from the standpoint of what would a reasonable person have done in the same situation.

The video is self proving. As to the press conference, people misspeak all the time. I have as I'm sure you have. The police report is the official document.

Maybe the cycle continues because some are always looking for problems where none exist.

Yep, you're still missing the point also.

I find it incredibly depressing that I am not disagreeing with people about anything they are saying and they are still missing the point. Yes, the cycle continues and it always will because as always people want to see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. People will agree with people, say they agree with people and those people will still miss the point.

Unbelievable.........

Another mind reader apparently. :lol2:
So, what you are saying is that the black people in Ferguson are not smart enough to realize that the victims, perpetrators, and police departments are all different and the two cases are related in no way whatsoever?

I don't claim to know what other people are thinking. Much of the media is trying to tell the black people of Ferguson that they should be linking the two shootings, but I am pretty sure that there are a few black people in Ferguson who are not that gullible.

To quote Tommy Lee Jones in MIB: A person is smart. People are dumb.

No one is having a reasonable, rational discussion with an individual. The discourse is with the populace and it's being handled very badly. PR is a lost art IMO.

I assume Clyde's point was because the black community feels like the police are not honest with them they don't trust the police. If that is the point of the thread then IMO this was the wrong evidence to use to support that. IMO if you feel like this situation supports that then you're looking a reason to justify your position.

There are legit reasons blacks are justified for not trusting police departments, pretty much every single one I will never have to deal with being white. The reason for this thread isn't one of them. People get tired of the media being blamed for fanning the flames but the HuffPo article in the OP is the exact reason the media is blamed.

I agree that the PR in both this case and in the case of the Ferguson shooting has been horrible, but the individual persons that comprise the mob in the streets of Ferguson bear some responsibility for not fully engaging their individual brains. They are being manipulated by the media, both commercial and social, when enough facts are known to reserve judgment for the time being and exercise some patience while the investigation proceeds.

To be fair to those performing PR for the police departments involved, they are facing overwhelming obstacles to communicating a clear message. Even if they had hired a topflight PR firm to handle the media, facing the propaganda machine of the Obama administration, the Missouri governor's office, and the left-leaning mainstream media would have been very challenging.

I feel like the video, not the situation, not the incidents, not the specifics in the incidents, not Michael Brown, the video taken at face value is an illustration of why the black community doesn't trust the police. If you look at that video that was shown you can't see a knife and you can't hear the conversation between the suspect and the police. All you can see is that dude get shot by the police within 15 seconds of them getting out of the car. Then in that video you hear the witnesses saying "they're putting cuffs on him and he's dead!!!!!" Then when the police issue their statement regarding that video that is being circulated their version of the events don't match what is shown in that particular video.

That is why the black community doesn't trust the police.

To go to the Michael Brown situation, the police and Officer Wilson's friends and family waited a week to release their side of the story. Their side of the story makes sense to me as a person. Their side of the story justifies him shooting Michael Brown 6 times. The fact that it took a week to get that side of the story is what is troubling and another example of why the black community doesn't trust the police.

In this situation it has been stated publicly by the media and by city councilmen in Ferguson that the police were justified in shooting the knife wielding, suicidal suspect. I agree with that also. As I stated before this particular video is not a good look for the police department that is a mere four miles away from Ferguson. Justified or not, this incident is not going to make the relationship between the black community and the police in this area any better.

That's the only point I have seen people try to make.

Isn't that the fault of the media rather than the police?

I think people inferred from the comment of the overhand grip that this guy was going Norman Bates on the police. Overhand grip means the knife was out the backside of the hand, not out in normal fashion like you would have to dice up some onions. Probably poor display by the chief in the presser. And again I say, when they say stop, stop. You live. Pretty easy instruction. They may not trust the police, but they sure as heck don't obey them either.

Yep, you're still missing the point also.

Nope. Now matter how much you want to think I am.

I feel it is incumbent upon both sides of a situation to solve it, not just one. Both sides have to be open minded and actually WANT to solve the issue, not just give it lip service.

Isn't that the fault of the media rather than the police?

I think a good Public Relations guy for the police would have been all over this in the first days and made sure this story of the officer's injuries and other parts of the story were brought to the forefront right away.

I believe the officer's story. But you don't wait as long as the Police Department did in getting "their side" of the incident into the public's eyes. It makes you look like you have concocted a lie to cover up the incident. It's bad leadership IMO that can't see the way these events would play out and have a plan to be an official voice to counter the "unofficial" voices.

So I don't blame it all on the media because the police have some serious responsibility to this officer and their department in seeing to it that there is another side of the story to be heard right away.
