This Video Is Why the People In Ferguson Don't Care What the Police Report Says

No, it did not happen in Ferguson. It did not involve Ferguson. It is an attempt to equate apples and oranges.

You'e smarter than that.

Black people in St Louis metro area, like many across the country, feel the police are not straight with them. Now we have an example 4 MILES AWAY and you think the people in Ferguson a)didn't hear about it and b)are saying "see - the police lie - why should we believe the Ferguson police - they're all the same."

Your head is in the sand if you don't think that's the thinking.

Roger Murtaugh: See how easy that was? Boom, still alive. Now we question him. You know why we question him? Because I got him in the leg. I didn't shoot him full of holes

Didn't that guy end up having a hidden gun?!

So, what you are saying is that the black people in Ferguson are not smart enough to realize that the victims, perpetrators, and police departments are all different and the two cases are related in no way whatsoever?

I don't claim to know what other people are thinking. Much of the media is trying to tell the black people of Ferguson that they should be linking the two shootings, but I am pretty sure that there are a few black people in Ferguson who are not that gullible.

You are missing the point. Police report said he was within 3 to 4 feet with the knife raised above his head. Neither were true. That's the point. If you think the police in Ferguson are lying you now have an example of police lying/misremembering.

That's the point.

He was within a few feet. Just didn't have the knife raised. I get that it doesn't look good that they got the story wrong but if people are mad because they shot a guy with a knife coming at an officer they are just looking for trouble.

Again, having read your posts on here for a while, I know you are just being obstinate.

I can't make it any clearer. I think most people get the point being made. If you don't.....

It's in there somewhere. I can't find another one. Chief is talking to reporters and demonstrates.

The Chief did not say he had the knife over head. When he said the Powell had the knife in an over hand grip he made 2 or 3 stabbing motions starting around shoulder level. I did not take it as him meaning Powell had the knife up, he was just describing what he meant by overhand grip. How else would you describe an over hand grip. Now the 3-4 feet seems to be incorrect, it looked further then that but wasn't that far. At the end of the day Huffington is looking for something that isn't there.

Again, having read your posts on here for a while, I know you are just being obstinate.

Your point is very clear...I just strongly disagree. One unrelated shooting does not justify a violent reaction to the other shooting. That is just common sense. Mob justice is no justice and nobody should be trying to justify it.

I think the video should suffice for most people.

Sure, you'll get : why didn't they shoot to injure, taze him, one person wrote they should have stayed in the car.

Most people , though, get that if you're coming at an officer with a weapon - even if it's not up in the air as claimed - you're susceptible to getting shot.

Some skeptics will always say "what if he wasn't black?" It's part of the job.

Which goes back to my other post. If every white person that shoots a black person is considered a racist then this will never end.

That is the issue I have. I saw the press conference when it happened and the chief definitely demonstrated in stabbing motion which never took place.

The only thing I could tell from the video was the guy going toward the officers and without hesitation started shooting.

I have defended police beyond no end on these boards in many cases, this one I'd like to know a couple things first.

Do the cops have tasers? If they do they didn't even use that as an option, and why so fast on the trigger? I don't know the answers to those questions, but the video was totally different to me than the news conference immediately following the shooting.

I understand them shooting him whether the knife was raised or not. The only question that I have is why the one officer continued to shoot after he was on the ground? You can clearly hear two of the shots happen well after the guy was on the ground.

I don't think it is very clear to you. You keep trying to explain why he was shot. Irrelevant to the thread. You defend the police (correctly) - irrelevant to the thread. You point out that because there are different police departments involved that the Ferguson people who think there is a black/white issue won't link the two. Incorrect. You claim I or others am trying to "justify" it. Not true.

So , I don't think you do get it. OR you're being obstinate.

Disagree all day.

Again, when/where was it claimed the knife was in the air / over head?

That's for the original thread. I created this one specifically to deal with what I believe many in Ferguson are thinking.

Video of the chief's presser. He simulated the victim raising his hand to stab the officers.

I think the moral of the story kids is that there would be way less drama if people of any color simply stopped when they were asked by police to stop. Charging a police officer whether armed, unarmed, knived, unknived, baseball bat, unbaseball bat (you get the picture) is simply asking for trouble. I'm not talking justified or not. Just stupidiy. Frankly, I'm tired of people placing zero blame on the people who simply didn't comply with police directive.
