I can't fault Mustang75 for being defensive. Hedger is getting recruited by D1 schools and no one ever mentions his name when talking about Dixie. There are probably 7 or 8 players on Dixie getting more recognition in the media, in game threads, etc. than Hedger. Then there is a thread recognizing the player's recruitment and everyone questions what is going on. That is where I see the snippy posts, the defensiveness and the unappreciated feeling coming from.

You think I was out of line to question why a student that has given a verbal COMMITMENT would still be scheduling official visits? I have been on the other side of the desk on these issues (as you may know, more for Mr. Mustang in case he is curious), and unless a kid is a no-doubter, this would have changed our perceptions on a kid 100% of the time. Does it happen that schools pull schollies, sure, it stinks, but sadly the leverage is with them (they have a free education that the kid / parent needs / wants). If A.P. is good with this, than they obviously LOVE Andrew and really want him. Or...and I HAVE NO IDEA IN THIS CASE, they are waffling on him and they are hoping he goes somewhere else.

 

As I said above, I wish nothing but the best for the kid and hope he lands where he wants and maximizes his opportunities and has a great college career and experience. I just hope he and his family have been getting solid advice through the process.

 

I've seen a D1 coach, who had a 4-star kid verbal, than made a visit somewhere else, pull the kids' offer and tell him thanks but no thanks. Not saying it is right, but it happens.

Agreed. Just reading through the last day's posts would kind of make a neutral observer become a Pioneer fan Friday.

I'm with Mentsch on this. I don't think anyone is disrespecting Hedger. He has been getting mentioned on here a lot for over a year. He isn't being ignored. There are schools out there that after giving an offer and the offer is verbally accepted by the player that in times of past have pulled the offer when they hear the player is visiting other schools. I'm not saying this is the case here, none of us are, we are simply wondering why if he accepted the offer from AP then why look at other schools?

 

Some schools pull offers because they want to fill their spots and if they have a couple players in mind for a spot and they offer 1 kid and find out he may not be as commited to the school as the school is to the player then they may lock up the other kid just to have that spot filled. They don't want to wait and find out the first kid went somewhere else and by that time the other kid they were looking at already committed elsewhere. There are a lot of reasons that offers get pulled, and this is just one of them. It actually happens at all levels. There are DIII schools that don't take everyone who wants to play and actually only has a limited of spots on their roster and if they want to know early if a player is choosing them or not and why they have early decisions etc. and have had kids decide by early decision if they wanted to play at a certain school and if not then the coach was going after the next kid on their list and wasn't waiting until spring for the player to decide.

I can't fault MTGL for being defensive. He has proven his knowledge on here time after time. He clearly knows his stuff. Yet many other posters on BGP get more credit for their "insights". That is why I understand when he erroneously jumped to the conclusion that my post may have had something to do with him when the fact is my post was all about Mustang75's headset, not MTGL's or anyone else's posts in this thread.
