Like Clyde said, it's becoming more and more common. It's a great thing for kids who know what they want and where they want to play ball. It's a stepping stone to an early signing period in D1 College Football. Perhaps Hedger should look into this. Is he planning on enrolling in Jan?

1. Already answered in a previous response. No. I am close to Drew Barker and his dad so I kept did get some up-close exposure.

Agreed. Just reading through the last day's posts would kind of make a neutral observer become a Pioneer fan Friday.

It's 2014. D1 has changed a lot.

 

And unfortunately so has the definition of committed.

 

Baseball is the only of the sports, at least of the men's major sports, that still has some integrity left in the recruiting process. I went through it as a player, but that was several years ago. When I committed, my phone stopped ringing as did my interest in other schools, my dad would have rung my neck if I broke my word. Football is a madhouse, and I blame coaches and parents, not kids. 18 year old boys only know what they want today, not 4 years from now. Parents allowing their kids to issue these early verbals, and subsequently back out of them, are as big a part of then equation as the coaches.

Just this year, UK reneged on a verbal offer to an offensive lineman. They offered based upon tape, but when it was time to send the LOI, he was omitted. Evidently, they were disappointed in his camp performance.

 

Also, Ram can tell you about his experience where the written offer was not consistent with what was contained in the letter.

 

I'm going to start a thread topic in the recruiting forum on this. I feel this is worth exploring further.
