August 11, 201412 yr And I'll ask again, can Mezzo play left field? Anyone think he could be taught? And yes I realize he's not that fleet of foot. Rocky Boiman?
August 11, 201412 yr Anyone else think that Doc Rodgers has sounded drunk on the post game show? He sure did yesterday and another game a couple weeks ago.
August 11, 201412 yr I obviously am of the opinion that it was closer than you think it was. If it was that easy to put a throw right on the plate, there'd be more OF assists. No. If every team had Steve Smith coaching third base, there would be more outfield assists. Most 3B coaches realizes that major leaguers are pretty good at throwing the ball, hence the reason they hold runners.
August 11, 201412 yr Anyone else think that Doc Rodgers has sounded drunk on the post game show? He sure did yesterday and another game a couple weeks ago. He's battling cancer and I think some other physical issues. Could be his medication and/or physical issues he suffers from. There are times it is hard to listen to him but I gotta' give it up to him for his battling spirit.
August 11, 201412 yr Hamilton has been picked off 6 times. But he and his 70% steal rate is elite just b/c he's so fast I thought?

August 12, 201412 yr Author But he and his 70% steal rate is elite just b/c he's so fast I thought? He was voted the best base-runner and fastest player in the league. Don't remember exactly who did the voting, but I remember they were showing it last week during the Reds game. He was #1 in base-running and speed, with Dee Gordon #2 in both, and Gordon was #1 in bunting with Billy #2.

I think you are letting his past mistakes make this one seem closer than it was.

August 12, 201412 yr You would be right in most instances. But I disagree about this particular play. I think you are letting his past mistakes make this one seem closer than it was. You realize I'm the one that defended Smith's decision to send Pena a few games ago when he was called out on a bang bang play (one that went to replay and honestly could've been overturned for a safe call), right? I'm not letting his past decisions influence my take on this particular play. No way he should've sent him. It was not a close play at the plate. He was out by at least 5 feet.
August 13, 201412 yr He was voted the best base-runner and fastest player in the league. Don't remember exactly who did the voting, but I remember they were showing it last week during the Reds game. He was #1 in base-running and speed, with Dee Gordon #2 in both, and Gordon was #1 in bunting with Billy #2. Doesn't change the fact that he's 71% on stolen bases.
August 14, 201412 yr Author Doesn't change the fact that he's 71% on stolen bases. Also doesn't change the fact that folks a lot smarter than you or I are considering him elite.
August 14, 201412 yr Also doesn't change the fact that folks a lot smarter than you or I are considering him elite. I've seen articles by those smart people criticizing his instincts as well. While I think that he'll get better at it as he matures, his speed is certainly elite but his base stealing % is certainly not.
August 15, 201412 yr Also doesn't change the fact that folks a lot smarter than you or I are considering him elite. He is elite fast no doubt. 71% doesn't lie. You are usually on board with the numbers. Why not here?
August 15, 201412 yr I've seen articles by those smart people criticizing his instincts as well. While I think that he'll get better at it as he matures, his speed is certainly elite but his base stealing % is certainly not. Rather simple concept.
