Is the Wakefield kid from Male back this year? He's awfully elusive.

Did Fant play defense last year? I believe he only played offense last year.

 

Fant did play a handful of plays on defense last year, but they were really only in big games at the very end where he played center field when Hail Mary was coming. Mostly Offense

This is an award for what you do in high school, not how good of a recruit you are. There is not a better candidate than Elijah Sindelar. He will end up with the all time KY TDs record, God-willing and no injuries.

You also have to keep in mind Mr. Football is the only Mr./Mrs. Whatever in the state voted on by the media ... not the coaches.

 

There are like five outlets in Louisville (Courier-Journal, WAVE-3, WHAS-11, WLKY-32, WDRB-41) that have votes.

Lexington has 2-3 TV stations plus the Herald-Leader.

Bowling Green has WBKO-TV and the Bowling Green Daily News.

 

Other voters I can think of include, but are not limited to, daily papers in Ashland, Danville, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, Georgetown (unsure if they subscribe to AP), Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Murray (I think), Owensboro, Paducah, Pikeville, Richmond, Somerset (I think) and the NKY Enquirer. Think the Pikeville TV station gets a vote, too, but not sure if the Cincy TV stations get a vote since they are based in Ohio and not KY. Pretty sure they don't vote in weekly football/basketball AP polls.

 

I say all that with this is mind:

 

- Not a whole lot of voters in WKY, which could make it hard for Sindelar. Even harder since you only play one game a week and he doesn't venture into the eastern time zone a lot (not as much of an issue in basketball, when you can play in neutral-site tourneys or travel a couple of hours on a Saturday).

 

- Ryan's not even the No. 1 candidate in his own area (that would be Harris). I'm thinking a lot of CKY (Lexington area) voters are going to back Harris over Ryan.

 

Sindelar's chances were NOT helped by getting upset in the playoffs. He wasn't in the final playing in front of a lot of voters. He COULD help his chances by committing/signing with Louisville (NOT that I'm advocating that). That could get him on the Louisville media radar.

 

Playing in the state finals on a routine bases really helped Fant. He was in the final every year and people got to see him play in person.

 

It will be interesting to see if the Louisville media contingent backs Brooks (since he is only major candidate from The Ville), or if it goes with who has better stats or better recruited (enter Harris and Sindelar).

 

Voters aren't going to make charts of the top-10 or so candidates every week and see how they fared. They're also not going to go to HUDL and YouTube and watch highlight tapes (which tend to never show a bad week or how a kid bounces back from an interception, sack, hurried pass, fumble, dropped pass, broken play, etc.).

As far as asking if he played both ways, I don't think that would be considered playing both ways.

Lets be fair buddy. I like Winkler a lot and as I said earlier I thought he was SK's best WR last year. With that said, you talk so many SK players up each year which isn't fair to the kids. Before the season last year you had half a dozen of them going DI, how many seniors last year are going to play DI this year?

 

Don't do the same to Winkler please. Let the kid play this year without a target on his back put on there by you.

If one would have to eat crow for misjudging talent he would never get the black feathers picked from his teeth. Now, that being said, in Independence the term DI is thrown around more than a 85 Ford Escort in the demolition derby at the Kenton County Fair. One should really use more restraint when it comes to using the term DI.

It's suppose to be! After you get to the best say 5-6 players, it becomes a popularity/love fest contest by the writers who vote.

Allen? No. Wasn't even decisively the best running back on his own team last year, which had a HORRIBLE offense.

 

Feggins won't be in BG long enough to earn that type of votes.

I very much disagree.... Fegigins is finally getting the chance to play both sides of the ball and he is probably more impressive on the Defensive side then he is on the Offensive side. Julius Allen was waiting his time behind a loaded Senior class. This has nothing to do with his abilities on the field.
