I very much disagree.... Fegigins is finally getting the chance to play both sides of the ball and he is probably more impressive on the Defensive side then he is on the Offensive side. Julius Allen was waiting his time behind a loaded Senior class. This has nothing to do with his abilities on the field.

 

Feggins is a superb athlete and Allen has good size and strength.

 

That loaded senior class at South Warren was awesome on defense. Offense? Yeesh. Plenty of teams could/did put up as many points in the first quarter alone as SW would score in an entire game. SW rode its awesome defense pretty far. Won few, if any, games with its offense.

 

Hal Mumme South Warren was not.

 

Secondly, I'm not sure you realize how Mr. Football works. To even be a finalist, you have to be nominated by multiple (I believe it's 3) AP outlets. Maybe the BG Daily News and WBKO throw them a bone, but I don't see many nominations coming from the rest of the state.

 

Plus. you still have Eli Brown. You really think the Bowling Green/Warren County area will have THREE Mr. Football candidates/finalists with this:

- Brown (coming off an injury)

- Feggins (who didn't even play in the county last year)

- Allen (a role player on a horrible offense)

 

Um, no.

 

Allen would have to have a MONSTER year. Smaller school. Least hype entering season. Easiest schedule. He'd need like 1,800 yards and a boatload of TDs to even get in the conversation.

 

And if what you say about SW opening up the offense is true, I don't see a running back getting those types of numbers. He won't get enough touches.

I will go on record of saying Julius Allen will have at least 1500 yards and 12 TD's.... And Jensen Feggins will have a Monster season primarily because; remind me who is the Head Coach??? Oh yeah HIS FATHER!

 

A D1 prospect who has zero offers so far... Hmmm? I wonder if his father will try to feature him somehow to help him get a D1 Scholarship. Simple answer... YES!! If he has a monster season, he should and will get nominated by the local media, and lets not forget he has ties to the Northern part of the State so there is more likelihood of him picking up votes from other sources then any other Candidate in Southwestern Kentucky...

And it's a shame if you have any say or influence in who is nominated because it seems you have already made your decision before the season has begun.... SMH!!

I do NOT nominate or vote. But I know people (dozens) who do.

 

Feggins might not even be the best Mr. Football candidate on his OWN TEAM. 24-7 Sports has Warren Central linebacker Emmitt Smith has the second overall Class of 2015 player in the state (has Eli Brown third).

 

So to say someone like Allen or Feggins is a Mr. Football candidate (or finalist or even winner) at this point is extremely far-fetched compared to:

 

- Donald Brooks

- Eli Brown

- Nick Coffey

- Damien Harris

- Beau Hoge (Feggins' teammate at Highlands)

- Drake Jackson

- Grayson Miller

- Reese Ryan

- Elijah Sindelar (Caldwell County QB)

- Emmitt Smith

- Marquez Trigg

- Mason Wolfe

You've got two guys in your own backyard (Brown, Smith) who have better shots than Allen and Feggins. You're pumping up Feggins (who has yet to play a game at WC), yet ignore Smith? And I'm assuming since Eli Brown is at a rival school you're not going to give him the time of day.

 

When it comes to SW Kentucky, Brown (WE), Coffey (RC), Smith (WC), Trigg (Glasgow) have better shots at this point.

 

There's a whole season in front of us.

 

At the same time, I don't see how you can honestly say Feggins and Allen are among the state's elite at this point.

I am not ignoring Brown or Smith, I could care less which school any of them got to... IMO Feggins and Allen should be given consideration as well. Especially preseason.... The reality is none of these guys have played a down this season yet, and it is hard to name any 1, 2, or 3 guys as a lock to win it. Seems somewhat unfair to me.

 

This is why I enjoy college Basketball/Football because the Heisman Trophy winner or POY could literally be anyone. They allow the players to speak for themselves. Yeah, they have preseason favorites, but by the end of the season, a player who has put up the stats Nationally has a shot regardless of where he was at in the preseason. With your system, seems that you already have narrowed down who you want to give the award to.... Allow ALL the kids play to speak for themselves, and keep an open mind instead of just following the rest of the Sheep....

If Feggins is just playing DB there is no chance on Hume even being mentioned as a Mr Football candidate.

Problem is that unlike college there is not enough information on the various candidates unless a person really digs for it and that's just not going to happen. Therefore it becomes a matter of who is best known going into the season.

I think much of the information is available, but the voters, for the most part, don't go looking for it. I can attest that BGP does a great deal of research prior to selecting the All-Bluegrasspreps Team and the information is available. Some may question why this player or that player made the All-BGP Team and much of those questions are due to the amount of research that is done and many fans may not be as familiar with some players around the state because they aren't always the players that are spoke of.

Couldn't agree more with that statement. The voters already have a list in their minds pre season and hardly deviate from that list throughout the season. I may sound bias but one of the best WR's in the state and someone who led the entire state in receptions through most of the regular season last year was never even an afterthought on any of the voters and never was mentioned in anyone's list last year.

 

The winner will be someone already in the voters list right now period.

I kind of agree but I think there is a huge misunderstanding if people think the the winner is all

About numbers because facts are that numbers aren't the deciding factor when other players out up better stats sometimes but aren't even mentioned.

High school never has or never will be all about numbers when it comes to Mr. Football. My guess is it's who is getting the early looks from major programs. That has to influence the voters more than numbers. Of course, those people with the early publicity also have to follow up with good seasons under the microscope. Stats in HS ball, while interesting to discuss, can't tell anyone who the best player is due to the huge differences in competition and offensive strategy among other factors. Since the stats are often suspect by those who can't see all the players, they take the easy road and fall back on the most publicized.

I agree...but it seems like all the winners are on the offensive side of the ball.
