Reds @ Indians / Indians @ Reds (8/4 - 8/7)

I've hated Steve Smith and his terrible decision making this year but I will not give him grief over that decision. If it was a 3-2 ball game then yes but up 9-2 and the play was that close, it's not a terrible idea to send him.

Steve Smith sucks...

Come on Johnny, your English is better than Pena's 2nd to home time. Go for it.

If Mike Brown owned the Reds, Thomas Veras would be looking for work.

Most would say Dunn is the king of the pointless HR...

Pointless home runs is but one of Adam's many talents:

I was waiting for that type of post. Most would say Dunn is the king of the pointless HR...

How do we define a "meaningless HR?"

How do we define a "meaningless HR?"

Ask some of our brethren on here.

I assume it's a solo shot when the game is out of reach. Surely you remember the days when BGP'ers rode Adam Dunn for only hitting solo shots...

Dunn on the mound is the highlight of my day!

Dunn is now 6th all-time for HRs by a player who has pitched in a MLB game.

Jay Bruce got his contract off of those meaningless homers. No one has padded their stats over the years better

97 of his 175 HRs have come in High or medium leverage situations. Only 22 have been hit with the Margin > 4 Rs.

I think hitting HRs when the Margin is less than 4 Rs is pretty meaningful.

Don't you just hate when facts prove people completely wrong? :lol2:

Mesoraco can't even DH? Price sucks. I want a real manager.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason we don't see the other C DH is because if Pena would happen to get hurt, wouldn't the Reds lose their DH if they had to move Meso to the field?

Yes. That's exactly it. It doesn't hurt them for him to play first base because if the catcher gets hurt he can move to catcher and the backup first baseman slide into the catcher's slot. If you don't have 3 catchers on your roster you don't want one of them in the DH slot. Completely understand why Price wouldn't do that.

I had thought that was the rule, just wasn't sure.

Seems like a stupid rule, but yeah, definitely makes it understandable why Meso didn't play.
