Cueto for Cespedes?

Featured Replies

I'd like to have Cespedes in LF for the foreseeable future. Not sure that I'd give up Latos or Cueto but Leak, Simon, Cingrani, etc would all be options.

After some more consideration...It's debatable who's the better pitcher between Cueto and Lester. The A's traded Cespedes for 2 months of Lester. Seeing as they'd have Cueto for next year as well, hell no do I do that deal. They'd have to throw in at least one top-tier prospect to make me even consider it.

I wouldn't be happy if the Reds gave up Cueto for Cespedes, but I'd trade Simon for him in a heartbeat.

Yep, and yep. Actually, I'd have to have two top-tier prospects to let go of Cueto and maybe still don't consider it. I'd sooner let go of Latos than Cueto.

Pretty much what I said and apparently I am not qualified to post here anymore

I continue to go back and forth on Cueto versus Latos. My big knock on Cueto is he seems to tighten up in the big games. When it comes playoff time, I prefer Latos on the mound. Then again, Latos is so high strung he can let a little thing throw him off center. Latos is 2 years younger, so when it comes contract time, I think I would rather have Latos.

You are the Voice of Reason

I know Cespedes gets a bunch of pub once a year during the Hr derby but we have enough .260/30 potential. When and if they trade Cueto I hope the return is better than what the Rays dealt for Price.

Cespedes is a bum and the rays got waxed in the Price deal. If those are my options I'm fine holding tight.

A bum? That's kind of harsh. He is what he is, really. Scores a bunch of runs, drives in a bunch, hits some homers and doubles. His projections this year are well above his previous years' totals. Provides an elite arm and is improving overall as a defender. He probably figures to get a nice uptick in his hitting numbers from getting away from the Coliseum in Oakland and its massive expanse of foul territory, and could be a major weapon if he learns how to play balls off the Green Monster the way guys like Williams and Yaz did in their LF days. If he learns some patience at the plate he could be great.

I but we have enough .260/30 potential. .

I can hear it now, Reds fans saying "We gave up Cueto for a .260/30 player"

How many playoff games have they won with Cueto since he has been a starter? My opinion of Cueto the person changed when he was kicking and stomping at players during that Reds-Cardinals brawl a few years back. I really don't care if he would win 10 Cy Young's, (just me)but am not a fan of his. But hey Cespedes is with Boston and Reds fans have no worry about Cueto going anywhere.

For two months? No way. Equal contract lengths? Still no way.
