August 1, 201412 yr A CY Young candidate for a player who is hitting .250, no thank you. The Red Sox only traded Lester because they will resign him this offseason. The Reds still have another year with Cueto so his return should be a lot higher than that.
August 1, 201412 yr Cespedes is a very low walk/OPB guy. Te Reds don't need that in their offense. People only think Cespedes is a great player cause he wins HR Derbys. He isn't that great of a ball player people make him out to be.
August 1, 201412 yr Heck, I'd argue Oakland got an upgrade in the Outfield offensively with Fuld. .275 BA with a .374 OBP.
August 1, 201412 yr Author I agree that Cespedes isn't all that. But at GABP he would hit 30 HR's, get 100 RBI's and be the #4 hitter the Reds desperately need. The Reds have a luxury of pitching and a shortage of offense. If you don't want to give up Cueto, would you give up Latos for him? Leake? Simon?

The Reds have a luxury of pitching and a shortage of offense. The Reds really need a guy with a great/good OBP. There is enough power in tha lineup as is.
August 1, 201412 yr Author I hear you Loogy but it isn't a perfect world and you have to seize opportunity. If there were that guy you want available, that would be great. We know Cespedes was available. We know his contract works for the Reds. We know one, two, maybe three of the Reds top starters is not going to be here for the long haul. Cespedes is a player that would help the Reds this year and next year and the Reds could afford to trade a pitcher to get him.

Why settle for Cespedes when you could potentially get a better offer in the offseason? I would want the best offer possible for a guy like Cueto/Latos. With Cespedes I'd feel like they were settling.

August 1, 201412 yr I wouldn't be happy if the Reds gave up Cueto for Cespedes, but I'd trade Simon for him in a heartbeat.
