Black Teen Records Workers Following Him Around Store; They Think He is Stealing

Featured Replies

I obviously would have no problem with them searching my computer because I would have nothing to hide. Now them telling my neighbors I'm a pedophile suspect or suspected of having child pornography then yeah I would have a huge problem.

Them entering your house announces to your neighbors that you've done something wrong. That's my point. If there is no cause for them to enter you've been unfairly labeled/accused by your neighbors regardless of the reason - drugs vs porn.

IMO the video doesnt contain near enough evidence to throw the book at the employees . Too much we dont know , did he go to a dozen stores where he wasnt followed ? Was he acting suspicious ? Did he have that coat on when it's 95 degrees out ? Was there a history of young black males stealing from this particular stores ? lots of questions .

Having said that it would flat out suck if that happens , and from hearing from some black posters on here it does . I dont mind the kid trying to spotlight the issue at all , just video the entire situation .

100% correct on all points.

Our debate is centering around what we know goes on in the world - profiling.

If I saw police entering my neighbors home the 1st thought that entered my mind wouldn't be I wonder what crime they've committed. My thought would be I wonder who broke into their house, or what was stolen or done to them.

100% agreement here. Those video clips aren't long enough and don't really show much of anything and don't give us a whole lot of basis to come to any sort of conclusion. Case in point...I was at Speedway a couple of days ago right down the street from work...I couldn't have held my phone up and taken a video and NOT have an employee in the frame somewhere. And just by me having a phone up, talking to myself taking a selfie video in the middle of the store is going to draw attention just in and of itself, and probably going to get some strange looks from the employees and quite possibly draw more attention to myself than normal.

Now, that isn't to say this kid in some way hasn't experienced what he claims...but I don't think we can draw that conclusion from the video posted on that link.

and dont refer to the lady as " some old white woman" it sounds like you dont appreciate her skin color .

So the kid is making a point to film and to take pictures of the people and call them out to make white people look bad? Got it. :thumb:

???Where in the world did you get that from my post?

Let's throw this out there for debate.

Assume the store owner has had trouble with young black males stealing in the past. And for argument's sake let's say it's almost ALWAYS a young black male .

Now what?

Good point. I'd say you'd almost have to profile, as hateful as that might sound.

If the pictures and film don't show enough to prove that is what the workers were doing then what exactly is the kid doing by filming them and taking pictures and calling them out? I don't know what his motive is if he isn't exposing the workers profiling him.

Invest in cameras like LRCW said. Or hire a security guard. The presence of the store being protected at all times is a deterrent.

But is the a reason for the profiling? If not, we're on the same page. If these are stores that have been hit constantly by black males, we're not.

Maybe they have them and the cameras weren't helpful enough. I worked part time for a while at a Sears Hardware and regardless of the different types of security they had in place, they were being robbed blind.

IMO there is never a reason for profiling. You either have a description of the perp or you don't. You can't treat every person who is of the same skin tone as the perp as a suspect. That's despicable.

Then IMO that is a poorly ran business.
