Black Teen Records Workers Following Him Around Store; They Think He is Stealing

Featured Replies

What if I'm of middle eastern descent and that's the reason I'm being followed by the NSA?

Are they only following people of middle eastern descent or are they spying on everyone?

You can do both. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Regardless, if the black kid has nothing to hide, just like the millions of Americans who are having their phone data collected, he shouldn't have anything to worry about. And neither should you.

I'm not worried. It doesn't change my thoughts that racial profiling is despicable. I've already stated in post #60 that I am okay with profiling if everyone who walks in the door is profiled. Which means I am okay with the millions of Americans having their phone data collected. Unless they are only collecting phone data from people of middle eastern descent. Diversity is key to profiling.

Being overly nosy and following people in a store because of the color of their skin are two different things IMO.
I grew up in a town that was 99.5%+white. There was a hardware store in town and I remember being followed around by an old white lady who thought I might be tempted to shoplift if she let me out of her sight. She treated every teenager who visited the store the same way. It was insulting and I avoided doing business with the store as much as possible.

The videos that this kid shot and edited are certainly not sufficient to prove that the store clerks did anything wrong. It is not like there are no teenagers who would stage a short video clip or two to claim a viral Youtube video. Before condemning the clerks, consider the possibility that this kid was working with an accomplice who distracted the clerks as they walked into view to prompt them to change direction.

I am not saying the the clerks were not following this kid around because he was black, but there are other plausible explanations. The videos are too short to have any idea of what was really going on here.

Diversity is the exact opposite of profiling right ? Is profiling to find a murder suspect ok. ?

It was sarcasm.

Sure. Profile away.

Yes. The videos are too short to prove anything.

Sarcasm is hard to detect on the net , no harm intended.

For what it's worth, the NSA is only authorized to collect data on foreign nationals, which means they are free to profile away on Middle Easterners. But, the NSA has twisted this justification to the point that they can collect data on just about any American. For instance, if you click on a website whose server routes through Europe, then you're fair game according to their interpretation. And that's about anyone who uses the internet.

I'd imagine that the profiling of Middle Easterners has been in full swing since 9/11.

The bolded is pretty clever. :lol2:
