Black Teen Records Workers Following Him Around Store; They Think He is Stealing

Featured Replies

there is no real video , only like 3 seconds of an employee near his space . listen PP -- I dont doubt for a nano second discrimination is real , there are enough redneck haters out there to fill up a mega stadium numbering in 6 figures . But in this case I wish the young man would have provided a little more depth to his experience other than just a still shot from his cell or 3 seconds of video . if you wish to expose something ( and I hope if that stuff is going on he does expose it) but do it right . Show the entire story . I fully understand this is NOT exactly the same thing but it could be he was trying to do a gotcha video instead of just acting like a normal shopper . I think thats why those political expose video's that are shown frequently dont have any power to them because they are shot trying to support a position , not simply expose truth . Dont blast me , I know those are different scenario's but this guys short clips dont show enough to draw any conclusions .

If the pictures and film don't show enough to prove that is what the workers were doing then what exactly is the kid doing by filming them and taking pictures and calling them out? I don't know what his motive is if he isn't exposing the workers profiling him.

Let me put it another way. If that's his evidence of what he is claiming and he's asking me for a verdict...I cannot convict on the evidence he presented.

I'm not saying what he is pointing out doesn't happen or hasn't happened to him. All I'm saying is I'm not willing to throw all those people in the video under the same bus based on the 20 or so seconds of video shown in that link. And for those that ARE willing to do that based on this, gosh I sure hope they aren't on the jury should I ever find myself in front of one.

I can't wait for jury duty. I hope I get on the Grand Jury.

His motivation ? i dont have a clue . most people are crazy . additionally young people tend to video everything these days . NOT saying he doesnt have a gripe , just want to see the whole sequence of events .

When I worked at SBUX, the last store I worked at was in a relatively high crime area. We often had people come in and try to steal things. But we didn't follow them around the store. And we didn't make assumptions. It honestly never occurred to us. The person who stole the most from us was a woman who appeared to be Jane Smith soccer mom. Turns out every week she was stealing a pound of coffee on the way out of the store in the morning, then bringing it back later in the evening to be ground.

So how were you able to deduce this about the lady thief?

Video. Our cameras fed to Seattle. Loss prevention there were able to identify her and send her pic to us. We turned everything over to the police and they handled it.

No argument there.

He may very well see what he posted as proof related to trying to make his point. I, and some others on here, think his "proof" falls short of proving his point.

Let me ask you a seemingly unrelated question...but one which ties in perfectly with this discussion, which I will discuss if you decide to answer. Do you believe in Bigfoot?

When I retire and start my life of crime...PM me and remind me not to start it in Boyle Co.:lol2:

Just funning with you brother.

If I'm a small store owner who is getting hammered by shoplifting, I'm profiling EVERYBODY that comes in that door. And if I cannot make a dent in what I am loosing, I close that store or relocate. Now, should I have cameras, sure. Should I hire security, sure. But I'm Mom & Pop, I cannot afford it so I need to take it upon myself. There is a way to patrol without making customers uncomfortable. JMO

No. Not in the essence of the legend of Bigfoot but I know some big hairy guys who in the right setting could be mistaken for Bigfoot. :lol2:

IMO there is never a reason for profiling. You either have a description of the perp or you don't. You can't treat every person who is of the same skin tone as the perp as a suspect. That's despicable.

I used to profile shoplifters...if they were wearing pajamas in the middle if the day...there was a better than not chance they were stealing :lol2:

I can handle that. That's fair IMO.
