Greatest Comebacks

Featured Replies

Trinity led the entire game and looked to have put it away a few times but Male came roaring back each time. They recovered two onside kicks in the 4th quarter but with about a minute left in the 4th quarter Bush threw a pick on the 1 yard line.

Sorry, maybe not a great comeback, but a great game none-the-less

The way this game is perceived is very fascinating to me. It seems to me that every HHS fan who was at the game thought that it was a monumental upset, whereas all the CCH fans felt the Colonels had the better team.

I don't know that I'd say most Cov Cath fans felt that way. Lorenzen (UK), Smith (UK), Kuhnhein (Ohio State)...all players that went on to D1 football programs. Doolin (UC) was the only Cov Cath player that did so. I don't think any of us - any of us on the team, at least - felt that we outmatched Highlands. I will say that we felt like the team with more heart won the game though.

I believe there were 2 onside kicks that NewCath also got in their favor that they kicked

2014 Highlands/Owensboro game has to be up there.

First half: OHS 42 HHS 21

Second half: OHS 0 HHS 28.

As a Cov Cath fan, I am biased, but the greatest comeback I ever saw was the 1997 Mud Bowl in Ft. Thomas. Highlands had completely dominated the first half. before going to their locker room at halftime. CCH went to the North endzone in the pouring rain.

Highlands returned to the field in fresh, clean, dry uniforms to start the 3rd quarter and proceeded to try to score 100 points. In the process, they allowed the Colonels from Covington Catholic to steal victory.

Greatest comeback. That's the greatest I ever saw.

That was the 2ND team. J/K

This was a bit before my time, but I believe it was 1975 when St. X beat Trinity 11-10 in the playoffs. Trinity was lined up to punt with seconds left in the game, and if I remember correctly the ball was snapped over head of the Trinity punter and St. X ends up winning the game and eventually the state championship.

I was there. Trinity should never have punted. Run a play and run out the clock.

Side note: the long snapper never came back to school. He was a friend of mine.

2010- Owensboro catholic down 29-7 to Danville in state semis. Ended up winning 61-42.

2014- Owensboro Catholic down 42-14 at halftime. Wins ball game 68-57.

I believe it was 1980. I was still a young time

mayfield is down 21-0 to defending state champ Ft Campbell and wins 28-21 on a 28-0 second half. A playoff win made it sweeter. Fans who left were driving back to the stadium as the game got close

Still find it hard to believe that Mayfield backfield did not get them to the State Title game.

Thanks for posting those links CWB. After the game, we stopped in at the Pub in Ft Thomas for a beer and it was silent, absolutely dead silent.

Either you were with me or we saw each other. Remember there being about 10-15 CCH fans and not a word said by anyone from Ft. Thomas. We had a few, headed for saddle. My favorite game of all time.

The Beau Show, 2014 State Championship...:thumb:

Never forget two Dixie fans walking up and looking at the scoreboard and saying..."Looks like Highlands is done, they are not that good, looks like we will have to bring the championship back to NKY"

1 1/2 qtrs. later the same guy says Highlands is lucky...

That was as good of a comeback in a title game that you will ever see...
