It is currently not known why the airline crashed or whether there are any fatalities. It is believed there were 280 passengers and 15 crew members on board. An Interfax report said the Boeing 777 plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The plane lost contact about 4.20pm Ukraine time when the flight was at 10,000 metres.

July 17, 201412 yr They're currently only able to say that they're suspecting that it was shot down. Officials are going through the United States' satellite imagining right now to see if they can identify the flight signature of long-range surface-to-air missiles, as would essentially be required to shoot down an airliner at the elevation that flight would have been cruising at. If it wasn't long-range surface-to-air missiles, it would have to have been shot down by another aircraft, which would also be traceable through the satellite imaging.

July 17, 201412 yr Author Photos showing up on twitter and being shown on CNN of pieces of wreckage. Looks to me as if plane blew up in the air as the pieces are very spread out and not just at a crash location.
