NKY Fans, Is this True?

Featured Replies

CCH hasn't won squat yet you and other fans still tend to talk down to other teams in the area that don't have the word Highlands in their name and it never made sense. CCH hasn't won anything yet they are men playing boys when you compare them to BW? I don't get it. How about CCH actually winning something before sticking their chest out.

Admittedly I'm out of the HS football scene, but the last time I checked Covington Catholic has six (6) state football championships, including one in 2006.

Only five (5) other programs have won a state championship since Cov Cath (in their division): Collins (last year), Highlands (2x), Boyle (2x), Bell County, Lex Cath.

Highlands has made it to the state title game three (3) consecutive years. Each of those three (3) years, HHS knocked Cov Cath out of the playoffs.

So it's a link to another thread about CCH vs BW and because it was started by Guru it means it has to be true?

Again, show me how CCH is so dominate and as you claim...Elite. I haven't seen anything since when.....2006? Have they won anything, even a district title since then? Elite at what exactly are they? Again, both schools you put down, NCC and BW have both won state titles since CCH has even won district. I think NCC and BW are much more elite than CCH.

There are two distinct arguments here:

1. Elite relative to class

2. Elite relative to NKY

Highlands has certainly prevented CCH from #1.

CCH certainly has an argument in #2 when it comes to NCC and BW.

You are comparing them to the other NKY class 6A schools.

Who should I be comparing them too?? They are a 6A school.

Class 6A in NKY has been among the weakest of all NKY teams, so if you are only talking about 6A, then yes you are dominating a bad class.

They are 2-0 against NCC the last 2 years, years that NCC went 1-1 in the 2A championship game.

They beat Collins last year, who then went on to win the 4A championship.

Sorry, they are not just dominating a bad class.

Again, dominating and being good in the area are two different things.

SK was the 2nd best team in NKY last year. They were fun to watch. That doesn't mean they have dominated year in and year out. You compared them to other teams in a class instead of to all the teams in the area. If you want to claim they are the best 6A team in NKY, I will agree. If you want to talk about them as if they are an elite NKY team then I'd have to disagree.

Being Elite in NKY or even in their class I would expect them to win something. They've done neither recently. To claim they are men compared to boys when talking about BW I would also disagree with. a 19-14 record vs BW isn't as dominating as some would like to make it out to be when talking about how much better they are than BW.

Cov Cath man to man is way bigger in size and numbers than BW and the difference resembles the difference between a jv and varsity squad.

Big doesn't always win. That's why they play the game.

Who won this matchup? David, or Goliath?

Couldn't agree more. Cooper 2012, every team they played just about were bigger. Anyone see Harland that year? They were HUUUUUGE! Big doesn't mean better.

Highlands 7 straight State Title games...elite yes. Cov Cath, not so much.

The team that went all out to win vs. the team that thought they could work on their passing game and still win. :D

Now that I understand the gist of the conversation here, let me point out that in 2012 when Beechwood almost beat SK, losing 21-17, Beechwood suffered one of their worst losses to CCH just 3 weeks later, final score CCH 41- BW 7. I know score comparisons are somewhat unreliable but if we are comparing CCH versus SK, they don't look very close that year based on the BW scores.

In general though, I think this year is a big year for SK. They had some turnover in key players and will be starting a new QB. If they put together another solid season, I think it is time to look at them differently than we all have viewed them based on their previous history. Marksberry obviously thinks he finally has the program at a high level because he finally has started stepping up the schedule. If SK fans want proof that they weren't that elite program until now, just look at the scheduling your own AD/head coach put in place. I think SK may finally have their program to the level uk#1fan has been dreaming about. This year will help tell the tale.

Hey, don't be messing with my analogy here. lol

I don't know the context behind the post about "JV" so I can't speak to that. If I said 8-2 over the last 10? Seems dominant.

For the record, BW IMO is still legit. They are not as dominant as they were in the Yeagle years but , nonetheless, a strong program.

One thing is clear.

It is a lot easier to stand at a distance and shoot your mounth off, push your chest out and take shots at other programs, than to actually play a game against the program you are taking shots at. :D

Right bballguy? Right HB?

This was said in another thread, is it true?

My concern is not if Beechwood is as good as Simon Kenton, but the part that says Simon Kenton is on the same level as Covington Catholic but BW is like a JV team to Covington Catholic. Is Beechwood a JV team to Covington Catholic?

I can't speak to the SK/ CCH comparison because they haven't played in recent history.

As for Beechwood/CCH- I will say this. Last years game was closer than the score indicated. Year before that not so much. And as has been pointed out by someone else, CCH has won 8 of the last 10 or something like that.

The upcoming Jr class for Beechwood absolutely smoked everyone they played as Frosh (CCH, Highlands, Ryle- everyone). Which was astounding considering the number of kids that were fielded. If all those young men continue with football, I can see Beechwood having a very good year this season- and an even better year next season.

I can certainly see a scenario where they get CCH this year or next. Lots of things have to happen, beginning with having enough talent to supplement that talented class. I could be off, but I don't see that in this years incoming Soph's or incoming Frosh. Not as familiar with the upcoming Sr class, but it does sound like they return some key Sr's.

Every year we all get into this discussion about top of the heap in N Ky- and I think Clyde is right. What gets jumbled in these forums is: 1) top of the heap regardless of class or 2) top of their class. With 6 state championships and (minus a few lean years back in 2008, 2009) consistent winning records, there is little debate in my mind that Cov Cath is considered one of the top 10 programs in the state. What that gets you is a cup of coffee and a pat on the back until you win another state title and get by Highlands. And as someone has also said, there are no other programs who have come close to matching what Trinity and Highlands have done in this state over the years.

It's all a bunch of debatable semantics- I'd suggest not getting too worked up about it until the team your rooting for has a stake in the outcome of playing one of those guys.

Again, 2006 was the last time CCH won anything. That was my point. You are correct, Highland beat CCH each of those years....Highlands elite..yes...CCH elite...No.

I think your getting too worked about one guy making a passing comment about CCH vs BW. And I think your the only one using the word "elite" when downplaying CCH. I don't see anyone calling CCH "elite". Dominant over BW over the past 10 years? Yes.

Is CCH considered one of the top 10 programs in the state? I would say yes. Does that make them "elite"? I would say no myself, but everyone's going to have a different definition for the word. Elite to me is top 2 or 3 max. That's been Trinity and Highlands year in and year out- to a slightly lesser degree, St X.
