Is Niemi out at Ryle?

Featured Replies

The religious references cannot be a surprise, can they? I remember the documentary on KY High school b-ball and it was evident when the showed Ryle at Rupp that that was part of his discussion with the team.

In fairness to Nate, let me say that I, too, have heard that the Ryle b-ball parents (some - not all) are a piece of work and are part of the problem at Ryle.

The parents behind this are pathetic. You have done your own kids more harm than good. I really like your chances against CovCath on Monday.

Good Luck to Coach Niemi; sounds like you need it with your idiotic parents.

As a parent of a ball player from another school that has several scrimmage games at Ryle, I have always thought Coach Niemi did a good job and some times as a parent you have to back the coach. I know some of the kids that play there and they are not always as talented as their parents think they are. As parents we want to think our kids are better than they really are. Some of the kids at Ryle need to have the silver spoon pulled from their mouths and get a good swift kick in the BUTT. Maybe some of the parents need the same thing.

Rumor is that a parent has been out to get the coach all year. This parent and the son had a bad experience earlier in the year, and just got an opportunity to get the coach right before the district championship. The coach typed up a motivational paper, which included religous references. This paper was obtained by the parent who took it to the superintendent forcing him to suspend the coach.

Please tell me it wasn't because of the "religious reference", unless it was using the Lord's Name in vain?? This politically correct crap is getting out of hand!!

The problem was playing time and not the religious references IMO. I guess that Nate's mistake was putting down the reference in writing. Yes, it is my understanding that the actual reason for the suspension by the superintendent was the religious reference that was given in writing to more than just the player whose parents filed the greivance.

Coach Niemis' first problem was having a conversation with a parent in the first place....these days a coach has to distance himself as far as he can from parents, and thats sad.

Am I misinformed but don't many football teams pray before a game? We used to say the Lords Prayer when I was in HS and nobody every went crying to the Superintendent when lil jonny didnt get in the game.

Poor timing from the parents if this is true, a very selfish thing to do. Some parents need to grow up.

If these rumors are indeed true, which based on the number of different people saying so I would assume so, then who would want to coach this team in the future?

Same has happened with the ryle girls basketball team..there have been several girls who have quit the team and parent complaints this year because of the coaching and his tactics during practice...know this for a fact because a girl who started last year for ryle doesnt even play this year and i have spoken with several of the girls players.

Also, why hasn't Ryan Luster played much for Ryle? This kid would be a top player at Holmes had he not left but all he's doing at Ryle is riding the pine. Im sure there's a good reason for this??

Not sure about the girls basketball situation, thats for another forum.

But as for Ryan Luster, I've watched this kid and he isn't what people say he was going to be. From what I've heard he has been as big as he is now since the 7th and 8th grade. He isn't tall enough to play the post and doesn't have enought speed and defensive skills to play the perimeter. He has been hampered by an injury all season from what I hear and just got over that towards the end of the regular season. Look who he is playing behind, two or three playes who deserve more time than him. Brady is a two year starter and will go to war for his coach and team. Maley is an up and comer at ryle, and may be the best player on the team. Nelson is beast inside and rebounds with the best players in the region. Where would Luster fit in? I don't think his playing time is going to go up any time soon, but he might be an asset off the bench next year.

Luster actually hasnt been the same since he injured his back and knee. He may not be the offensive presence he once was like you said in 7th and 8th grade and i never said he should be starting, i just think he should be playing more. He is a big body they can throw in there and help defensively and with rebounds...he is a strong athletic kid...No knock on Jordan Brady who like you said will go to war for his team, but I just feel at times Brady looks lost out there. We'll see what happens i guess though...maybe there's a particular reason he's not playing. I just feel a kid like him should probably be in the mix of things rather than sitting at the end of the bench

I've seen him play many times in the last year and tend to agree with this assessment. I've never been impressed with his shot selection, either. I could see him playing a little bit more than he does, because of his size and athleticism, but I don't think he fits well with Ryle's style of play.

Agreed he needs to be a 7th or 8th man to add some strength and athleticism.

Maybe we should ask Nate Niemi about this Luster kid, I am sure he has the best take on the situation but unfortunately he doesnt have to answer to everyone here on the board.... Its nice to wonder though....
